Eddie Axton is the father to Aisha Axton and a professional baseball player raised in Harlem.

Early Childhood[]

Eddie grew up in Harlem in the 1960s. His father taught him how to play baseball. He played stickball on 110th Street, which is where his love for baseball first began to grow.[1][2]
Minor League[]

Although Axton didn't attract much attention as a player in college, Eddie Axton moved to New Jersey to join a minor league baseball team, where he first began to hit his stride. His success on the team attracted a lot of attention from the major league, and he was eventually recruited to the New York Mets.[1][2]
New York Nine[]

The New York Mets eventually cut Axton from the team, and he signed with the New York Nine. Axton's career in the major league did not attract much attention from the press.[1]
1987 Championship Series[]

On October 15, 1987, the New York Nine defeated San Francisco in Game Seven of the 1987 Championship Series. People watched from all over the world to witness the underdog team defeat the favorite to take home the championship. At the bottom of the sixth inning, Nine fans considered the game to be over. However, the then three-year veteran and backup center fielder, Eddie Axton, knew that if he were able to knock out two of San Francisco's most consistent hitters, the Nine would be back in contention for the championship. In the third inning, Axton played a pivotal role in game six as well when he was able to catch the balls of two of San Francisco's heaviest hitters.[2]
The Nine won the championship, and Axton earned a championship ring.[1]
