"The same man suspected of having just shot and killed the three police officers at a scene of a standoff—"
Pat Kiernan[src]

The ESU Sniper is a corrupt Emergency Service Unit officer of the New York City Police Department, hired by Wilson Fisk to frame the Masked Man.

Biography[]

Attack on the NYPD[]

"You shot him."
"Technically, we paid someone else to shoot him."
Carl Hoffman and James Wesley[src]

In the wake of the Bombing of Hell's Kitchen, the ESU sniper was ordered by Wilson Fisk to take a position on the rooftop near the Abandoned Building where the Masked Man and Vladimir Ranskahov were hiding from the New York City Police Department. When Christian Blake was arguing with Ben Urich, the sniper shot Blake, as well as Pinski and the other NYPD officer, causing a chaos. With Fisk's men providing media with the footage of the Masked Man attacking the police and escaping with Ranskahov, he was deemed a perpetrator behind the shootings, as well as the explosions at Hell's Kitchen.[1]

Abilities[]

  • Master Marksman: The ESU sniper can shoot with accuracy and precision from a distance. He is consistent with his skill, as he shot Christian Blake and Pinski in the chest, hospitalizing the former and killing the latter. His skill allowed him to be recruited and trusted by Wilson Fisk to shoot targets that he was tasked with.

Trivia[]

  • In the scene where the sniper prepares his rifle, there is an ace of spades visible in his deck of cards, which was rumored to be a reference to Bullseye. In an interview with IGN, Steven S. DeKnight said: "I can say absolutely nothing except people have a fine, fine astute eye. Whether or not that was Bullseye, time will tell."[2] This version of the character was scrapped, as Benjamin Poindexter was introduced as an FBI agent in the third season.
