"This one's highly experimental - an Electro-Magnetic Pulse Discharger. Someday, it might be able to knock out every electronic gadget within 30 feet."
"Give me an hour, I'll save them decades."
Pascal Vega and Jemma Simmons[src]

The EMP Generator is a device generating electromagnetic pulses. S.H.I.E.L.D. developed an earlier non-functional model during the 1950s, while Victoria Snow developed a fully functional for Stark Industries.

History

Prototype

Prototype version of the EMP Generator was developed by S.H.I.E.L.D. in 1950s and stored at Area 51. Pascal Vega noted that the prototype was non-functional but intended to make it being able to disrupt any electronic device within 30 feet.[1]

Blackout Attack

Preparing for their hunt on the Inhumans, Anton Ivanov used his old military contacts and acquired the EMP Generator for the Watchdogs. The Watchdogs used the generator and caused multiple blackouts across the globe, pretending to be Inhumans, so people would start lynching them. However, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents managed to track down the Watchdogs' location and after the confrontation, Leo Fitz deactivated the generator.[2]

War Against the Chronicoms

When Chronicom Hunters, during a time travelling mission in 1955, infiltrated Area 51 to launch Project Helius and destroy S.H.I.E.L.D., Jemma Simmons managed to activate the generator and used to it to disable the reactor.[1]

Quentin Beck's Campaign

"Ready."
"Fire it up."
Victoria Snow and Quentin Beck[src]

Former Stark Industries employee, Victoria Snow, created a version of the EMP Generator prior to the Skirmish in Ixtenco. She used it to create electromagnetic pulses in order to stage the arrival of each of the Elementals during the Elemental attacks.[3]
