The EMP Generator is a device generating electromagnetic pulses.

History[]

Prototype[]

"This one's highly experimental. An Electromagnetic Pulse Discharger. Someday, it might be able to knock out every electronic gadget within thirty feet."
Pascal Vega to Jemma Simmons[src]

A prototype version of the EMP Generator was developed by S.H.I.E.L.D. in 1950s and stored at Area 51. Pascal Vega noted that the prototype was non-functional but intended to make it being able to disrupt any electronic device within 30 feet.[1]

The Watchdogs activate the EMP Generator

Preparing for their hunt on the Inhumans, the Superior used his old military contacts and acquired the EMP Generator for the Watchdogs. The Watchdogs used the generator and caused multiple blackouts across the globe, pretending to be Inhumans, so people would start lynching them. However, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents managed to track down the Watchdogs' location and after the confrontation, Leo Fitz deactivated the generator.[2]

Mysterio's Masquerade[]

"Ready."
"Fire it up."
Victoria and Quentin Beck[src]

Former Stark Industries employee, Victoria, created a version of the EMP Generator prior to the Attack on Ixtenco. She used it to create electromagnetic pulses in order to stage the arrival of each of the Elementals during the Elemental attacks.[3]

Alternate Universe Versions[]

Rescue of Pepper Potts[]

In an alternate universe, A.I.M. used three EMP Generators to hide their facility from the United States military. Tony Stark arrived at the facility and J.A.R.V.I.S. explained that the EMP Generators were interfering, so Stark destroyed them.[4]

Theft of the Dataspine[]

No, no, no, no--"
"Multiple signatures."
J.A.R.V.I.S. and Tony Stark[src]

In an alternate universe, the Roxxon Energy Corporation attacked the Dataspine and used EMP Generators as a large bomb. The bomb disabled Tony Stark's Iron Man armor and allowed Roxxon to steal the Dataspine.[5]

Chronicom Colonization of Earth[]

In an alternate 1955, Chronicom Hunters infiltrated Area 51 in order to launch Project Helius and prevent S.H.I.E.L.D.'s rise. Jemma Simmons managed to activate the generator and used to it to disable the Helius reactor, foiling their plans.[1]
