"You killed my mother. My father. You're flailing. You're weak."
G'iah to Gravik[src]

The Duel at New Skrullos was a confrontation at New Skrullos that pitted G'iah against Gravik.

Background[]

"I got a deal for you."
"Got anything to do with the Harvest?"
"Bring it to me in person, I'll call the whole thing off."
Gravik and Nick Fury[src]

Frustrated with Nick Fury and Carol Danvers not making good of their promise to find a new home for Skrulls, Gravik founded the Skrull Resistance, intending to secretly take over the Earth and make it a Skrull homeworld. Under Gravik's orders, the Resistance members started to kidnap and replace various key figures in world governments, mass media and military structures, orchestrating conflicts and political tensions around the globe.[2] At the same time, Gravik also ordered to build a machine to enhance Skrull abilities, while sending his men to find the Harvest that contained DNA of the Avengers and other enhanced to use their powers in their invasion.[3]

Talos and G'iah

Talos tells G'iah the truth about Gravik

Gravik's actions drew attention of Talos and Maria Hill who informed Nick Fury of the covert Skrull invasion, so he would return to Earth from S.A.B.E.R. Space Station and take on Gravik as well. While they were working to foil Gravik's plans, Talos approached G'iah who was working for the Resistance at the time and revealed that Gravik was lying to her and that he was responsible for her mother's death. G'iah agreed to be Talos' spy within the Resistance, giving him intel on Gravik's plans, but even that did not help Fury, Talos and Hill to stop the terrorist attack in Moscow that seriously damaged relations between Russia and the United States.[2]

As G'iah continued to secretly aid Talos, Gravik soon started suspecting her to be a traitor and organized an attack on UN-1 to see if G'iah would help Talos prevent it. As Gravik's suspicions were proved correct, Gravik tried to kill her[4] but G'iah survived as she used the machine to infuse herself with the Extremis. Believing that he dealt with the traitor, Gravik ordered an attack on James Ritson as he was arriving to London for an emergency peace talks with Russia. Fury and Talos were able to rescue Ritson and evacuate him to the hospital, although Gravik was able to kill Talos.[5] Pagon questioned Gravik for refraining from killing Fury, who never told Gravik the Harvest's location, which caused Gravik to kill him for getting out of line.

Gravik orders Raava, who infiltrated Ritson's surroundings in James Rhodes disguise, to reveal the Skrull threat to Ritson and get him to authorize a nuclear strike on New Skrullos. Gravik knew that the attack would lead to a full-scale war between the United States and Russia and Fury would do anything to prevent it, even giving up the Harvest. Following an attempted mutiny in which Gravik killed Beto and other rebels, he reached out to Fury and gave him an ultimatum: either he brings him the Harvest or the humanity will perish in a nuclear fire. Being a wanted man, Fury managed to arrive in Finland with Sonya Falsworth, where he recovered the Harvest from one of his fake graves before preparing to confront Gravik head-on.[3]

Gravik to G'iah[src]

Joining forces with G'iah and Sonya Falsworth, Nick Fury came up with the plan to stop Gravik and prevent James Ritson from greenlighting a nuclear strike. While Fury and Falsworth would go after Ritson, G'iah assumed Fury's likeness and took the Harvest with her, arriving to Russia to confront Gravik on her own. Reaching New Skrullos, G'iah gunned down two Skrull Resistance members guarding the entrance gate and made her way inside, passing by the corpses of the rebels and pretending to suffer from radiation poisoning to trick Gravik. As she encountered Gravik, G'iah acted like her condition was getting worse and dropped her anti-radiation pills, lulling Gravik into a false sense of security.

Gravik the Super-Skrull

Gravik becomes a Super-Skrull

They both stood at the Super Skrull Machine, Gravik taunted "Fury" and declared that once he kills "him", the entire humanity will suffer and go extinct and all of those deaths would be on "his" conscience. In response, G'iah admitted that "he" did fail Skrulls with his inability to find a new home for them and that "he" came to make amends by giving Gravik the Harvest, asking him to use its powers to take over some other planet and leave Earth alone. Gravik took the Harvest but made it clear that he had no intention to listen to "Fury" and entered the Harvest into the machine, preparing to enhance himself. As both of them stood in the machine, Gravik infused himself with the Harvest's DNA samples and became a Super-Skrull.

G'iah (SI)

Gravik proceeded to attack "Fury" but then G'iah blocked his attack and threw him into the tower, revealing herself and that she also became a Super-Skrull. Preparing for the fight, G'iah told Gravik that he killed her parents, calling him weak and charging onto him with Extremis in one hand and Drax the Destroyer's strength in another. Gravik threw a car at her but G'iah used Ghost's powers to phase through it unharmed and summoned the powers of Korg and a Frost Beast, impaling Gravik with an ice blade. Gravik then used Ebony Maw's telekinesis to brush G'iah off by hitting her with some rubble before lifting her the air and kicking her with Hulk's leg.

Injured but undefeated, G'iah charged at Gravik, as both of them used Captain Marvel's powers and fought each other in the sky, with Gravik repeatedly punching her with Thanos' strength. He attempted to strangle G'iah as the two of them were rapidly descending, but she used Mantis' powers to put him to sleep and send him to crash into the ground. Gravik continued to fight back, regenerating his wounds with the Extremis, so G'iah combined multiple powers at once and charged him through his attacks, striking Gravik several times before lifting him up by his throat. Gravik mocked G'iah for being just like Talos and humans he was so desperate to protect, before G'iah fired a powerful photon blast through his gut, which Gravik did not survive.[1]

Aftermath[]

G'iah liberates the captives

"Your people need a leader. You'll need resources to fight this war that Ritson has launched on your people and I can get them to you."
"And let me guess, you're doing this out of the kindness of your heart?"
"Oh, God, no, don't be silly."
Sonya Falsworth and G'iah[src]

As Nick Fury and Sonya Falsworth succeeded and convinced James Ritson to call off the strike, G'iah rushed back to New Skrullos and liberated the Skrull Resistance's captives, including Everett Ross and James Rhodes. Meanwhile, Ritson addressed the state, revealing the existence of the Skrull refugees to the world and announced the Anti-Alien Act that designates all off-world born species enemy combatants. Ritson's declaration resulted in a wave of violence across the globe as groups of vigilantes took it upon themselves to hunt down the Skrull infiltrators and kill them all, although their actions resulted in human deaths too, as the real Pamela Lawton was shot in front of 10 Downing St.

Sonya Falsworth meets G'iah

Sonya Falsworth offers G'iah an alliance

MI6 managed to track down G'iah who was on the run and Falsworth approached her, making it clear that she had no intention to fight. Falsworth said that Skrulls need a leader in such dire times and she would provide her with resources to save her people from the war that Ritson had launched on them. G'iah quickly guessed that Falsworth's offer was not out of kindness and said that when Talos made a similar deal with Fury, it ended badly for everyone. Falsworth was certain that they would not repeat their mistakes and keep their alliance strictly beneficial to ensure safety for both humans and Skrulls on Earth, which G'iah hesitantly accepted.[1]
