The Double-Edged Sword was a double-bladed weapon used by Thanos.
History
Construction
The Double-Edged Sword was constructed before for Thanos, the Mad Titan, before August 2014. It was possibly made by Eitri, the King of the Dwarves.[1]
Time Heist
Battle of Earth
Thanos from an alternate 2014 wielded his Double-Edged Sword when he time traveled to 2023 and engaged the Avengers. With his sword, Thanos was able to have an upper hand against the team of Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America, especially when he used the sword to break Captain America's Shield.
During the Battle of Earth, the sword was damaged by Scarlet Witch, but it was still usable enough for Thanos to throw it at Luis' Van before Captain Marvel could enter the Quantum Tunnel with the Nano Gauntlet, destroying the sword in process.[2]
Description and capabilities
This massive Double-Edged Sword was Thanos' primary weapon during his days as a warlord. Other than a melee weapon, it could also be used as a throwing weapon that returned back to Thanos like a boomerang. The sword was made from an extremely sturdy material, being durable enough to withstand strikes from both Stormbreaker and Mjølnir. When used by Thanos, it was able to break Captain America's Vibranium Shield after repeatedly striking it, because while the Vibranium is the Earth's strongest metal, the blade of the Double-Edged Sword was made out of something stronger.
The sword could also spin in a circle so fast that it was blurred.
Behind the Scenes
- Comic book writer Jim Starlin, who created Thanos, mentioned in an interview with Digital Spy that the Double-Edged Sword was inspired by the ThanosCopter, a helicopter piloted by Thanos in Larry Lieber's Spidey Super Stories. Though he admits he liked more Avengers: Endgame than Avengers: Infinity War, however, Starlin noted that the Double-Edged Sword was the film's only aspect he really disliked.[3]
