Dorothy May Steel (February 23, 1926 - October 15, 2021) portrayed Merchant Tribe Elder in Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

- Dorothy Steel did not begin acting professionally until the age of 88. She initially declined an invitation to audition for Black Panther until her grandson urged her to reconsider.[1]
- Steel died during production of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with Marvel Studios paying for her to fly home to Detroit when she became ill during filming (having filmed most of her scenes). She had previously stated that Wakanda Forever would be her final film.[2]
