Attack on the Hydra Research Base[]
Tony Stark incorporated a Digger Missile into his Mark XLIII Iron Man Armor prior to the Attack on the Hydra Research Base. During the attack, Stark realized that the Hydra Research Base was protected by an energy shield. Once he had defeated the Hydra soldiers guarding the compound, Stark had J.A.R.V.I.S. scan for a potential energy source for the shield, with J.A.R.V.I.S. determining that the shield's power source originated beneath the north tower of the compound. Stark quickly flew near the north tower and, while firing repulsor blasts at the shield, fired the Digger Missile into the ground near the tower. The Digger Missile burrowed underground and destroyed the shield's power source, taking down the shield and enabling Stark and the rest of the Avengers to enter the compound.[2]
Design and Capabilities[]
The Digger Missile is designed to be able to burrow underground to hit targets buried beneath the ground's surface that would otherwise be protected from other weaponry.[2]
