Diaz gained employment as a scientist for Cybertek, eventually working closely to Ott, the senior vice-president of Research and Development.

After the HYDRA Uprising, he conducted job interviews with out-of-work S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists. Diaz, along with Ott, met with Phil Coulson and Melinda May, who were trying to obtain files from Cybertek. They turned them down for employment because the technology they presented, an I.C.E.R. bullet, had already been given to them by HYDRA.
