- "You know he single-handedly demolished the Chronicoms, right?"
"Actually, it cost me both hands." - ―Deke Shaw and Phil Coulson[src]
The Destruction of the Chronicom Time Ship was an unplanned mission, undertaken by Phil Coulson and Melinda May in an attempt to stop Chronicom Hunters, resulted in the explosion of the Chronicom Time Ship underneath the Lighthouse.
Background[]
- "We go where they go."
"And when, yeah."
"All right, so we'll always be a step behind. We need to find the Chronicom ship. Go on the offensive." - ―Yo-Yo Rodriguez, Jemma Simmons and Alphonso Mackenzie[src]
A Life-Model Decoy of Phil Coulson was built by Jemma Simmons, Leo Fitz, and Enoch in order to serve as a source for S.H.I.E.L.D. history when they fought against the Chronicom Hunters, who were traveling through time in order to prevent S.H.I.E.L.D. from existing.[2] Zephyr One followed the Chronicoms' Time Ship to 1931, 1955, and 1973, before arriving in 1976, when Coulson and Melinda May infiltrated the Lighthouse in order to stop Project Insight from being launched. However, the two were arrested[1] and interrogated by General Rick Stoner, who did not believe their story about the Chronicoms.[3]
Destruction[]
- "May, if you're out there, I found the ship. I just hope you're right about this next part."
- ―Phil Coulson[src]
Phil Coulson and Melinda May eventually realized that Chronicoms had become able to replicate the personalities of the people whose bodies they take, and saved Rick Stoner from being killed by Chronicoms. While May brought Stoner to safety, Coulson went below the Lighthouse into the Chronicom Time Ship.
Coulson talked to Sibyl, who told him about Daisy Johnson being kidnapped by Nathaniel Malick. The two discussed Sibyl's relationship with humanity, and declared dying as his superpower. He stopped talking to Sibyl, and took a detonator out of the bad he had brought into the ship with him. He called Melinda May using the two-way radio, saying that he hoped she was right about their plan, and pressed the detonator, causing the ship to explode, with Coulson inside. Both the time ship and Coulson were destroyed,[3] but Coulson's data managed to escape on a hard drive, and Sibyl's mind also survived.[4]
Aftermath[]
- "Shouldn't this Sibyl have died in the blast?"
"You'd think, but then again, I made it out on a hard drive, which got me thinking about ways she might have escaped."
"Coulson's found evidence that Sibyl slipped into the River's End power supply." - ―Alphonso Mackenzie, Phil Coulson and Deke Shaw[src]
Melinda May, Alphonso Mackenzie, Yo-Yo Rodriguez, and two Chronicoms who they believed to be Mackenzie's parents, safely boarded the S.H.I.E.L.D. Quinjet and escaped the Lighthouse. May, using her newfound knowledge about Chronicoms and her ability to feel other people's feelings, realized that Mackenzie's parents were Chronicoms, leading to a fight in which both Chronicoms were killed.[3]
Phil Couslon and Sibyl both survived the blast, and Coulson was uploaded into a television set when Deke Shaw found his hard drive years later. Meanwhile, Sibyl uploaded herself into the River's End power system, and communicated with Russell Feldman to get robots built of themselves. Sibyl led the robots to the Lighthouse and recovered the Time Stream,[4] and eventually got put back into her own body.[5]
