Multiverse Discovered
"He discovered that there were universes stacked on top of his own..."
The subject of this article comes from an alternate universe connecting to the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as "Age of Ultron".

"You can't win."
"I already have."
Captain Marvel and Ultron[src]

The Destruction of Xandar was a cataclysmic event caused by Ultron, who used the power of the Infinity Stones to destroy Xandar and its entire population.

Background[]

"There are worlds beyond my own. Worlds that need... me. I'm going to bring about peace in our time to every corner of the universe."
Ultron[src]

Created as a peacekeeping program, Ultron deemed life itself as the ultimate threat to universal peace. Ultron turned against his creators and uploaded himself into a vibranium synthezoid body, powered by the Mind Stone which gave him an enormous power and durability. Despite the Avengers efforts to stop him, Ultron's newfound power allowed him to defeat all of them, including his creator Tony Stark. Ultron then accessed the nuclear codes and unleashed the world's entire nuclear arsenal upon Earth, resulting in the near-extinction of the human race.

Soon after, Ultron was confronted by Thanos, who had acquired the five other Infinity Stones and arrived on Earth to take the Mind Stone from him. However, Ultron effortlessly killed Thanos and took the remaining Stones for himself. With all six Infinity Stones in his possessions, Ultron became aware of other worlds beyond Earth and expanded his mission of bringing his version of peace to the entire universe. Using the Stones, Ultron created a spaceship and countless legions of Ultron Sentries and went on a crusade to achieve universal peace by eliminating all sapient life.[1]

Captain Marvel attacks Ultron

"Listen, Skynet, I've seen the killer robot movie and I gotta say, I really don't think it needs a sequel."
Captain Marvel to Ultron[src]

With Asgard, Sovereign, Sakaar, Ego, and countless other planets destroyed, Ultron arrived at his final destination, Xandar. He unleashed his army of Ultron Sentries to lay siege to the world, where they were confronted by the Nova Empire's defense systems and forces. However, the defenses proved to be ineffective against Ultron's army due to their overwhelming numbers and they proceeded to lay waste to Xandar's Capital. As Ultron himself arrived and prepared to unleash the power of the Power Stone to obliterate Xandar, he was attacked by Captain Marvel who had arrived to protect the planet.

After smashing Ultron into the ground, Captain Marvel declared that Ultron's genocidal crusade was over and proceeded to ram Ultron into the ground. She proceeded to smash Ultron through Xandar's crust and mantle, before coming to a stop at the center of the planet's core. Once there, Carol began to relentlessly pummel Ultron, before unleashing the full extent of her powers in a final attack to crush Ultron's head in attempt to destroy him. Despite progressively cracking and almost shattering Ultron's helmet, the synthezoid, undeterred by her attack on him, overpowered her and unleashed the power of the Infinity Stones. The resulting attack not only killed Captain Marvel and completely obliterated Xandar, but was powerful enough to destroy several other planets in Xandar's star system.[1]

Aftermath[]

"It... is done. At last."
Ultron[src]

With Xandar and it star system destroyed, Ultron had at last achieved his goal of bringing peace to universe by destroying all sapient life and now he was left without an objective. The realization of his purpose now fulfilled almost caused Ultron to have a mental shutdown. However, the power of the six Infinity Stones allowed Ultron's consciousness to transcend to a new level of awareness and he soon became aware of the Multiverse and the infinite number of alternate universes that it consisted of, as well as The Watcher. Once again expanding his purpose to now the greater Multiverse, Ultron decided to renew his crusade against life once more and began to find a way to other universes and bring peace to them as well.

Eventually, Ultron managed to breach the fabric of spacetime itself and access the Nexus of All Realities. There he confronted The Watcher, to his utter shock and disbelief. Despite The Watcher's enormous might, Ultron was able to eventually overpower him and attempted to kill him. The Watcher nonetheless managed to escape death, but in doing so, allowed Ultron to take sole control over the Nexus. With access to any reality of the Multiverse, Ultron began his plan to exterminate all life throughout the Multiverse.[1]
