The Destruction of Project Greengrid was a successful attempt by Iron Man and War Machine to prevent A.I.M. from weaponizing the sky.

Stark Industries entered a weapons contract to develop a method to ionize the sky and create large storms, effectively weaponizing the sky against one's enemies. They were successful, but realized it was too large and used to much power to use discretely. Stark Industries later stopped producing weapons altogether, and Tony Stark began saving lives as the hero Iron Man.
Kearson DeWitt organized the theft of a significant portion of J.A.R.V.I.S.' code, which he then used alongside the technology developed for Project P.R.O.T.E.A.N. to merge himself with an artificial intelligence known as Ultimo. Stark, James Rhodes, and Natasha Romanoff found the facility where P.R.O.T.E.A.N. was being operated and attempted to stop it, but were too late as P.R.O.T.E.A.N. technology had already infiltrated the base. P.R.O.T.E.A.N. technology briefly infected J.A.R.V.I.S., allowing Ultimo to threaten to kill the people Stark cared about.
Ultimo carried out an attack on the Helicarrier using P.R.O.T.E.A.N. Hybrids and an A.I.M. Arc Armiger, which Stark and Rhodes managed to defeat. Stark had J.A.R.V.I.S. reprogram the Armiger for his own use and realized that A.I.M. would be using Project Greengrid in Ultimo's attempt to weaponize everything around him.[1]

Tony Stark and James Rhodes flew toward where Project Greengrid was being run and realized that J.A.R.V.I.S. was being cut off by them using a flak shield. A.I.M. forces approached the Stark and Rhodes, so they deployed their reprogrammed A.I.M. Arc Armiger. J.A.R.V.I.S. needed five seconds to activate weapons. Stark made a plan to go in through the front door and aimed the Arc Armiger at the bigger targets while fighting other targets himself. As Stark defended it, the Armiger destroyed A.I.M.'s defensive barrier. Stark and the Armiger continued through the base, when reconnaissance patrols and Arc Armigers arrived. Stark and the Armiger continued going through the base, and J.A.R.V.I.S. warned of P.R.O.T.E.A.N. Hybrids in the area.
Stark and the Armiger came across Greengrid's power nexus, and J.A.R.V.I.S. recommended moving the relays into the interior position. Stark defeated all of the guards protecting the power nexus and moved the relays, causing the whole system to be destroyed. Stark admired it briefly as the Armiger was pulled in and destroyed. Rhodes had J.A.R.V.I.S. override Stark's armor and get him out of there.[1]

With Project Greengrid destroyed, Tony Stark and James Rhodes realized that Ultimo would likely be trying to kill Stark, and that Kearson DeWitt had been completely absorbed by the artificial intelligence. They set a trap for Ultimo and fought him at Stark Archives, where they were able to destroy him.[1]
