The Destruction of Asgard was the completion of Ragnarök.
Background[]
Ragnarök was the prophesied fate for Asgard, wherein the planet was to be destroyed by the flames conjured by Surtur.[1]
Destruction[]
Surtur made his way to Asgard and plunged his Twilight Sword into the core of the planet. With Ragnarök having been triggered, Asgard was then engulmed in flames before it exploded, killing all of the Asgardians on the planet, including Odin.[1]
Aftermath[]
The Tesseract, which was on Asgard, survived the planetary explosion. However, the force of the explosion propelled the Tesseract through the cosmos. It eventually crash landed into a lake in the Haudenosaunee Confederacy region of North America on Earth. The Tesseract and the Space Stone within shattered on impact and imbued the lake with the properties of the Space Stone, which included creating a wormhole at the bottom of the lake. Many Mohawks entered the lake and came into contact with the wormhole, which transported them to Sky World. As the Mohawks in the Haudenosaunee region were unaware of this, they believed the lake was cursed and was claiming the lives of anyone who entered it, causing the lake to be known as the Forbidden Lake. The lake passed on the Space Stone abilities to the Mohawks who entered it, the most notable instance being Kahhori, who used these e powers to repel the Spanish conquest of North America[1] as well as to fight against Strange Supreme and save the Multiverse.[2]
