Derrick Jackson is a police officer in the San Francisco Police Department and the boyfriend of Chris Yen.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Derrick Jackson became an officer in the San Francisco Police Department and began dating Chris Yen and joined the San Francisco Police Department. As Yen's boyfriend, Jackson grew a disliking for Ana Helstrom, Yen's boss, because of the late hours Yen had to keep and Helstrom's high demands of him.[2] Finding his job stressful, Jackson found punching a punching bag at the gym to be a helpful stress reliever.[1]
Looking for Chris Yen[]
Chris Yen disappeared to Portland without telling Jackson, so he visited Helstrom's auction house to check in on him. He was greeted by Daimon Helstrom, who responded to Jackson's demand to know who he was with sarcasm. Jackson briefly believed that Yen was cheating on him with Helstrom, who quickly cleared up the confusion, explaining that Yen was not at the auction house, so Jackson asked where he was. Ana Helstrom joined the conversation as Jackson demanded to know the kind of business the auction house was, and why Yen's hours were so demanding.
Ana apologized and took responsibility for Yen's hours, telling him that he was on a last-minute business trip overseas, and Jackson believed her. However, he remained suspicious when he noticed blood on her clothes, to which Ana responded that Daimon had dropped an artifact they were moving together and it caught her arm, and that she had not realized, thanking him. Daimon suggested that Ana get a bandage, so Jackson left, telling her that he would break up with Yen if she continued to expect such a high commitment from him. He then left the auction house.[2]
Later, Jackson received a text from Yen, unaware that Ana Helstrom really sent it from his phone, accounting for his whereabouts for the day.[3] Yen came back to San Francisco the next day, and spent two hours talking to Jackson about the "business trip" that Helstrom had sent him on, remaining suspicious of their activities. Jackson visited Yen and ate lunch with him, telling him that he felt like he was being ghosted. Yen asked how to make it up to him, and Jackson asked him to work on balancing work and life. Helstrom walked past and asked how long they would be rudely, and Jackson told her that the way she was treated his boyfriend was unacceptable, suggesting she exercise to relieve stress. Helstrom thanked Jackson for the advice and walked away.
He got home and attempted to access the San Francisco Police Department database, to find that he was logged in both at home and at Helstrom's auction house. He returned angrily, demanding to know why. Yen and Helstrom said he did not know what Jackson meant. He told them that he would have to tell them which night, such as Edward Tate, who died the night Helstrom and Yen hosted a big auction. They continued to feign ignorance, which frustrated Jackson, who left.
Later, he left the station where he worked and found Helstrom behind him, who confessed to accessing the files, claiming that Yen did not know. She explained that she was vetting clients, wanting to feel safe after one turned out to be a criminal. Helstrom told Jackson that Yen meant a lot to him as well, and asked to simply hug it out. They did, and he started to feel dizzy, when Helstrom suddenly let go of him and asked if he was okay. He said that she was, and she left, saying she had to go.[1]
Jackson later repainted the walls of his house, although he realized that Yen did not like the color. Yen said it did not matter so long as they got the fresh start which the new color symbolized, and they kissed. However, Yen broke off the kiss and dropped the paint roller, causing a mess. He quickly walked away, saying he needed cleaning supplies.[4]
