Defford and Officer Carl Nussbaumer were on assignment one day when they came across teens who were selling drugs. One of the teens cracked Defford's skull open with a bike lock, but Nussbaumer killed him before any more damage could be done.[1]
Investigating Jessica Jones[]
Defford got news that Carl Nussbaumer was killed. Her and Detective Imada searched his body cam and found Jessica Jones walking towards Nussbaumer before he turned off the camera. They obtained a warrant and went to her apartment. Defford rudely walked in, but was stopped by Jones, who reluctantly let them in when she saw the warrant.[2] Defford and Imada then looked as they scolded Jones, truly believing she was the murderer. Defford looked through the drawers and found a file pertaining to Nussbaumer, which she described as a motive.
Defford and Imada later visited Trish Walker for clues, but Jones found them and scolded the two officers for talking to Walker when she was grieving over the loss of Dorothy Walker. Soon enough, a witness came forward saying she saw Jones and Nussbaumer getting into it. They went to Jones' place, but only Gillian was there.[1] They went to Walker again, who did not know where she was.[3] They finally found Jones on the street, who said she did not do it and kicked a garbage can. However, the officers pushed further, trying to arrest her.[1]
Personality[]
Defford is calm and professional, however she believed Jessica Jones to be constantly lying to them, and replied her questions with a taste of hostility in her voice. Carl Nussbaumer apparently got revenge on her behalf against a kid who crushed her skull with a bike lock. She said she would not be alive, if it had not been for Officer Nussbaumer.

- Glock 19: Defford and her partner Imada used their handguns to arrest Jessica Jones at gunpoint for the murder of Carl Nussbaumer. They, alongside some officers, kept their handguns to threaten Jones and prevent her from escaping, noticing she was about to escape by jumping.
