The Danish Straits are straits in Denmark that were occupied by German forces during World War II.

History[]

The Danish Straits were occupied by Nazis, where HYDRA took up inhabitance. In 1944, Steve Rogers parachuted out of a plane into the straits in order to fight the Nazis, who began firing on them. Rogers fired back, and was pushed down. However, when he was told to surrender, he refused and took down the remaining soldiers in the vicinity. A plane crashed and exploded near Rogers, as Schmidt was notified of Rogers' presence.

Rogers went to the island where Schmidt was based, where he was attacked by a grenade. He used his shield to reflect the grenade back to the HYDRA soldiers, causing an explosion. He fought through the soldiers and entered Schmidt's base, where he was confronted by a HYDRA Exo-Skeleton. Schmidt listened to music by Richard Wagner while Rogers fought the man in the Exo-Skeleton. Rogers defeated the man, but saved his life when a tank almost ran him over, disappointing Schmidt. The tank then fired on Rogers, pushing him against a wall, but Rogers continued fighting.

Howard Stark then made contact with Rogers, and instructed him to enter the tank, where he could take control of it by overriding the autopilot. Rogers followed his instructions, and began using it against HYDRA. Rogers used it to break into the base, but had to abandon the tank when he came across a staircase. Schmidt ordered his men not to shoot until he was close to them, so that Rogers suffered the proper amount of pain, as Rogers was joined by the Howling Commandos. While the Commandos fought the soldiers, Rogers confronted Schmidt, only to learn that he was merely a hologram.

Schmidt began electrocuting the building, ensuring that Rogers would die if he did not leave and abandon the rest of the soldiers. However, Rogers refused, and broke the wire connecting a rune stone to the ceiling. The stone broke, and the Gabe Jones told Rogers and the Commandos that the stone is from Asgard. Rogers said that it was their job to determine HYDRA's mission.[1]
