- "So this is your, um, family business?"
"It pays that tuition of ours." - ―Tyrone Johnson and Evita Fusilier[src]
Damballah Voodoo Tours & Shop is a Voodoo store that was previously owned by Chantelle Fusilier in New Orleans. After Fusilier's passing, the shop was passed on to her niece, Evita.
History[]
Study of the Divine Pairing[]
Located in New Orleans and operated by Chantelle and Evita Fusilier, who lived in an apartment right next to it, the store was the final step in tours of the city given by Evita. During one of these tours, Tyrone Johnson joined the group and ended up in the store, where Evita introduced him to Chantelle. Chantelle briefly sat with Johnson to study him, and recommended him to have a ritual bath to explore his mind.[1] Later, as she had felt an unknown power within Johnson, Chantelle sat in her apartment with Evita to perform a Voodoo reading, reviewing the stories of the Divine Pairings, figuring out that Johnson was part of it as well, meaning that he and another person would have to save New Orleans from disaster at the cost of one of their lives.[2]
Chantelle later left the store for a whole night to walk around New Orleans, predicting that the catastrophe would come from Roxxon Corporation, leaving her niece extremely worried. Chantelle eventually returned to the store in the next morning, urging Evita to find who the other member of the Divine Pairing was.[3] Evita later went to Chantelle to tell her about the other half of the couple, Tandy Bowen. The two women once again reviewed the history of the Divine Pairing using the figurines on the apartment's fireplace, before Evita left to find Johnson and Bowen and inform them of their fate. Once the Terror in New Orleans was ended by Cloak and Dagger who both survived, Evita returned to the store and put away the different figurines in a box now that the Divine Pairing had broken the pattern of one dying to save the other.[4]
Tyrone Johnson's Visit[]
- "So what has you walk into my store like a sinner through church?"
- ―Chantelle Fusilier to Tyrone Johnson[src]
While baking biscuits, Chantelle Fusilier noticed Tyrone Johnson entering the store through her surveillance camera and told him to join her in her kitchen. She then explained to him the meaning of the vévé he had found drawn on the floor of the Rougarou Club, and then proceeded to advise him to pray to find the answer to his problems. She then began drawing the vévé of Papa Legba, claiming that it was to protect Tyrone from Evita Fusilier who had returned from a tour and was infuriated upon stumbling upon Johnson since she had not heard from him for months.[5]
Andre Deschaine's Visit[]
Chantelle Fusilier was later visited by Andre Deschaine, who claimed to have heard of the store thanks to Tyrone Johnson and to be looking for a cure for his migraines. Fusilier agreed to listen to Deschaine's story about the vévé he said he was seeing, but quickly figured out the truth behind Deschaine's attitude and did not trust him. As they continued their conversation inside the Dark Dimension, Deschaine used his powers to murder Chantelle,[6] before leaving her body on the apartment's floor.
In the nex day, Evita Fusilier opened the store, unaware of her aunt's death. Having been contacted by Tandy Bowen to help Johnson, Evita gathered a few ingredients from the store's shelves before leaving, still failing to find Chantelle's body on the floor. Upon returning after having understood that Chantelle was dead, Evita finally found the body and called the police to have it taken care of. Johnson then teleported inside the store, but Evita made him understand that she needed to be alone.[7]
