- "I found out he had a steady job."
"Doing what?"
"Selling coke. Although, I've never seen him drink any." - ―Deke Shaw and Alphonso Mackenzie[src]
Cricket was the drummer for the Deke Squad. Unlike the other members of the band, he was not secretly a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent recruited by Deke Shaw to await Alphonso Mackenzie's leadership. Despite this, Cricket was allowed to live in the Lighthouse, where he eventually met his demise when Sibyl-Bots invaded the base.
Biography[]
Hired by Deke Shaw[]
- "You know, I gotta say, not the easiest thing trying to find you without the Internet. I had to hire the shadiest dude. He was some guy named Cricket."
- ―Deke Shaw to Alphonso Mackenzie[src]
Known for being a drug dealer, Cricket became acquainted with Deke Shaw after the latter ended up stranded in the 1980s and hired Cricket to track down Alphonso Mackenzie, who had undergone the same fate but refused to remain with Shaw due to what had happened during S.H.I.E.L.D.'s time-traveling experiences. Following some investigation work, Cricket was able to locate Mackenzie and relayed the information to Shaw.[1]
Joining The Deke Squad[]
- "Cricket's... well, I mean, mostly, we just really needed a drummer."
- ―Deke Shaw to Alphonso Mackenzie[src]
Cricket ended up getting recruited by Deke Shaw to form the music band known as the Deke Squad along with Roxy Glass, Olga Pachinko and the Chang brothers Ronnie and Tommy. Unlike the rest of the band, Cricket was not part of the covert operations designed by Shaw to make the band a facade for the rebuilding of S.H.I.E.L.D., and was simply a drummer taking part in concerts with the rest of the Deke Shaw. During all this time, Shaw worked under the false assumption that Cricket was selling beverages and not drugs, being mistaken by the double meaning of the word "coke".[1]
Attack on the Lighthouse[]
Although not a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. member like the rest of the Deke Squad, Cricket had his own room in the Lighthouse. One night, while he was spending some time with his girlfriend Tawni, Cricket overheard some strange noises and believed that Ronnie and Tommy Chang were once again spying on him. Upon leaving the room, growing tenser due to the repeated sounds, Cricket and Tawni quickly encountered a Sibyl-Bot. Cricket made the mistake of mocking the robot, causing it to react violently by thrusting its circular saw right into Cricket's chest, killing him instantly.[1]
Personality[]
Being involved in illegal drug dealing and seemingly being only interested in playing music and having fun, Cricket had a quite nonchalant way of life. He was not considered reliable enough by Deke Shaw to become a part of S.H.I.E.L.D., and simply acted as the Deke Squad's drummer. His recklessness and lack of vigilance ultimately were the cause of his demise, as he mocked a Sibyl-Bot which was clearly armed with lethal equipment and killed Cricket after noticing that he had behaved poorly towards the robot.
Abilities[]
- Master Performer: Cricket was a very skilled percussionist who was kept onto the Deke Squad purely for his drumming ability despite the Deke Squad being a cover for S.H.I.E.L.D. Together, the squad created many hits.
Facilities[]
- Lighthouse: Cricket joined the Deke Squad in living in the Lighthouse. He spent time with Tawni in the Lighthouse, but was killed by a Sibyl-Bot.
