Davis Lawfers joined the mercenary group known as SERPENT, going under the codename Copperhead. In 2027, SERPENT were hired to steal adamantium from a Japanese mining site on Celestial Island and meet up with the buyer at Catedral de Santo Ramos. Copperhead used some of the adamantium to forge daggers for himself. SERPENT were found by Captain America, so Copperhead went to attack him when he confronted Sidewinder.
Copperhead fights against Captain America
Copperhead snuck up behind Captain America and went to stab him with his daggers, but Captain America blocked them with his shield. As the two fought, Copperhead was able to knock the shield away and commented that he had dreamt of killing the former Captain America. Copperhead claimed that this Captain America would break easy, and they continued to fight, with Copperhead quickly overpowering him. Copperhead joked about Captain America needing a rest, but was soon defeated when Captain America got back up and bested him, fracturing his arm in the process. Copperhead was knocked out and taken into custody by the United States Armed Forces.[3]
Personality[]
Copperhead displayed an upbeat, almost jovial personality. He relished in combat and violence, often smiling and taunting his enemies in the midst of battle. He expressed a desire to fight against strong opponents, even telling Captain America that he had dreamt of fighting and killing Steve Rogers. Copperhead also indicated a fondness for taking trophies from his kills, stating that he intended to add Captain America's star to this collection.

- Master Combatant: Copperhead was a proficient hand-to-hand combatant with significant brute strength, able to fight on fairly even footing with Captain America for an extended period. These skills earned him recognition from SERPENT's leader Sidewinder, who used him as a bodyguard and referred to him as a "bigger problem" for Captain America to worry about.
- Knife Mastery: Copperhead was also skilled in the use of his Adamantium Fighting Knives, which he used in tandem with his punches to disarm Captain America and damage the latter's suit.

- Adamantium Fighting Knives:[4] When he ambushes Sam Wilson at Catedral de Santo Ramos, Lawfers utilizes a pair of Adamantium fighting knives with trench knife style knuckle guards. He uses the weapons to disarm Sam of his shield, as well as damage his vibranium suit. The weapons also seemingly enhance the impact of Lawfers' punches, which would be expected from a partially brass knuckle like weapon.

- In the comics, Davis Lawfers was a civil servant who was recruited by Viper as part of her attempt to infiltrate the Serpent Society. He took on the identity of Copperhead and was given a suit of armor that incorporated gauntlets that could project electrical blasts, suction cups that enabled him to stick to and scale surfaces, a grappling hook, and exploding flare bombs.
