Alvarez and Jones' Trip[]
Hernán Álvarez and Darius Jones visited Coney Island sometime in their youth. During their visit, Alvarez and Jones stole hot dogs but were caught. Janis Jones punished her son, who had refused to tell her that theft was Alvarez's idea.[3]
Showdown with Vulture[]
In 2016, the cargo plane transporting Avengers’ weaponry was sabotaged by the Vulture and crashed landed at the shore of Coney Island. Vulture then engaged in a fight with Spider-Man, only sparing his life to carry off a crate of miniaturized Arc Reactors. However, due to the unstable nature of the alien power core when exposed to radiation from the Arc Reactors, Vulture's exo-suit wings exploded, although Spider-Man pulled him out of the blaze and debris, saving his life.
Spider-Man then webbed up Vulture and the surviving cargo and left a note for the authorities to find, apologizing for the destruction of the plane. When Happy Hogan and Damage Control arrived to evaluate the mess and take Vulture into custody, Spider-Man observed them in secret from the top of the Cyclone roller coaster.[4] The Daily Bugle believed Spider-Man to be responsible for the fight, criticizing the New York City Police Department for not agreeing.[5]
Reopening[]
- "Coney Island reopened today, years after a devastating attack by Spider-Man."
- ―The Daily Bugle[src]
In the aftermath of Spider-Man's fight against Vulture, Coney Island was closed down for repair. Upon its reopening eight years later in 2024, J. Jonah Jameson of The Daily Bugle continued to criticize the NYPD for not officially declaring Spider-Man responsible, after Spider-Man's identity had been exposed by Mysterio the week prior.[5]
