In the 1600s, the Choctaw people that were living in Louisiana were affected by the Great Famine. Some men of the tribe went to seek help, but they never returned from their journey. A boy and a girl who were alive and healthy took it upon themselves to save the whole village. The girl, who had a mark in her arm, sacrificed her life in order to end the famine.[1]
