- "Let me guess: he asked you to help him save the Multiverse?"
"To save it from you. Why do you ask?"
"Of course he said that. I'm not a Universe Killer; he is." - ―Kahhori and Captain Carter[src]
The Chase of Kahhori was an attempt by Doctor Strange Supreme to trick Captain Carter into capturing Kahhori so he could feed her to the Forge.
Background[]
Death of Christine Palmer[]
- "In this universe, Stephen Strange didn't lose his hands... but his heart. Grief-stricken, Strange sought answers across the world and in the Mystic Arts."
- ―The Watcher[src]
Christine Palmer died in a car crash. Her boyfriend, Stephen Strange, became overwhelmed by grief and traveled to Kamar-Taj, searching for answers. There he was trained by the Ancient One in Eldritch Magic and became a Master of the Mystic Arts. Two years later, Strange used the Eye of Agamotto to time travel back to the day of her death many times in attempts to save her, to no avail.
Following one such attempt, Strange was approached by a mystical manifestation of the Ancient One, who informed him that Palmer's death was an Absolute Point, meaning it could not be reversed, as it motivated him to pursue the mystic arts and defeat Dormammu. However, Strange refused to listen to her and asserted that he would find a way to save her. As he prepared to travel back in time again, the Ancient One called upon the power of the Dark Dimension to split Strange in half, creating a version of him in the same timeline who accepted Palmer's demise and resisted the temptation to use the Eye.[1]
Beginning of the End[]
- "Honestly, if I could fix this, if I could punish you instead, I would. But I can't interfere. You, more than anyone else, should understand that meddling with time and events only leads to more destruction."
- ―The Watcher to Strange Supreme[src]
Strange ended up at the Lost Library of Cagliostro, where he began summoning and absorbing the energy of otherwordly beings to gain the power needed to reverse the Absolute Point. Spending centuries absorbing beings and becoming Strange Supreme, Strange realized the last being he needed to absorb was the alternate version of himself that the Ancient One created. Summoning him to the crash site, Strange battled, defeated, and absorbed his other half and reversed the Absolute Point, destroying the universe and everyone in it, including the resurrected Palmer, in the process.[1]
Cocooned in a bubble made from Mirror Dimension magic, Strange Supreme was approached by The Watcher,[2] who enlisted him and others from across the Multiverse to battle the rogue AI Ultron, as he planned to eradicate all life in the Multiverse. The team, dubbed the Guardians of the Multiverse, managed to defeat Ultron and returned to their respective home universes.[3]
New Resolve[]
- "Let me see here, Infinity Ultron, I think you know, and Thanos, Loki. Beings of untold power hell-bent on destroying their universes. You know, the usual."
- ―Strange Supreme to Captain Carter[src]
Back in his universe, Strange Supreme became overwhelmed by grief once again and began collecting Universe Destroyers, imprisoning them in the newly-constructed Sanctum Infinitum. He planned to feed them to a Forge, giving it enough energy to resurrect his dead universe. The last person he tried to capture was the benevolent Kahhori; she managed to evade him, so Strange enlisted the help of his former teammate Captain Carter to capture her, telling her that Kahhori was Universe Killer who had escaped.[4]
Chase[]
- "If you insist on ending this in a fight, you will regr—"
- ―Captain Carter to Kahhori[src]
Captain Carter was transported to a barren universe, where she found that the Mount Rushmore National Memorial had been replaced with a sole carving of Red Skull. She argued with The Watcher, who warned her to be careful, before beginning to look for Kahhori. A blue blur ran in front of her a few times before knocking her off her feet.
The blur punched Captain Carter around a couple more times before the super soldier threw her shield at a calculated angle; it hit the figure before coming back to her. Carter threw the shield again, but the figure caught the shield and revealed herself to be Kahhori. Kahhori revealed that Strange Supreme had lied to her. Suddenly, an Inter-Dimensional Portal opened up underneath their feet, transporting them both back to the Sanctum Infinitum.[4]
Aftermath[]
- "There she is. That's Christine. Strange's plan worked."
"Yes, but at the cost of his life. He recreated this universe, but was never born into it, and never will be." - ―Captain Carter and The Watcher[src]
Strange Supreme revealed to Captain Carter that he had captured heroes along with Universe Killers and that he planned to feed them to the Forge; enraged at Strange Supreme's actions, Captain Carter used her shield to free all of the prisoners, inciting a riot. The riot culminated in a face-off pitting Carter and Kahhori against Strange Supreme, who ultimately sacrificed himself to the Forge to resurrect his universe, knowing he would never be born into it.[4]
