Castle Family Outings[]
Billy Russo with the Castles
- "I found this photograph. It's of him and his wife and kids at the carousel."
- ―Karen Page[src]
The Castle family often went to Central Park, specifically the carousel. They often went after Frank Castle returned home from war. On one occasion, Billy Russo, Frank, Maria, Lisa, and Frank Castle, Jr. went to the carousel and had fun. Russo told the story about how he believed he was named after Billy the Kid.[1]

Police detail the aftermath of the crime scene
- "But you and I know you and your family, you... you were at the carousel that day. From what I can piece together, it seems like you were caught in some kind of firefight."
- ―Karen Page to Frank Castle[src]
When Frank Castle returned home from war, he went to the carousel with his family. On that night, Frank's former superiors, Blacksmith and Agent Orange, teamed up with the Dogs of Hell, Kitchen Irish, and the Mexican Cartel to kill Frank as they believed he leaked information regarding Operation Cerberus.[2] Additionally, Billy Russo knew of this, but did not participate despite also not stopping them.[3]
The carousel in the aftermath of the massacre
On that fateful night, the group attacked, leading to the entire Castle family being killed. Frank, however, made it to a hospital where he subsequently flatlined. Despite this, his heart somehow started beating again. He turned to the doctor, George Bach, and said to take him home.[4]
The Duel[]
Frank Castle sits in front of the carousel
Over the next two years, Frank Castle went on a murder spree, killing everyone who was involved in his family's death. In one instance, Castle sat by the carousel, remembering his family when the Kitchen Irish showed up to torture Castle for not only stealing their money, but killing their people. Castle was then taken.[4] However, it was not until late 2016 where he realized that his best friend, Billy Russo, had something to do with it. The two ended up having a duel where it all began, the carousel.
Billy Russo opens fire on Punisher
Russo arrived early and took two hostages before Castle arrived. When he did get there, the two had a shootout on the carousel as Castle struggled with the rememberance of that awful night. Dinah Madani eventually arrived as well, but was shot by Russo, leading to her blacking out. Castle and Russo still fought it out until Castle got the upper hand and smashed Russo's face into the mirror. Russo begged to let him die, but Castle realized that was too easy.
Billy Russo's bloody reflection
Castle leaned close to his former friend and pushed him repeatedly into the mirror, dragging his face across the broken glass. He told Russo that everytime he will look in the mirror from then on, there will be a memory of not only what he did to Castle, but to everyone. He then left the unconscious and bloody Russo before tending to Madani and the hostages as the police arrived.[1]
