The Celestial Communication Sphere is a sphere that allows an Eternal to communicate with the Celestials.
History[]
Ajak's Sphere[]
Before her mission on Earth started, Ajak was given a communication sphere which entered her body at the level of her chest. Ajak would use this sphere to communicate with Arishem the Judge and report to him regarding the advancement of the Eternals' mission. One example of such conversation occurred after the Battle of Babylon. Whenever the sphere was activated, it would generate an illusion of Arishem in front of whom Ajak stood.
In the wake of Ajak's death, her sphere was transferred to Sersi who Ajak had chosen to succeed her. The sphere left Ajak's body and merged with Sersi's just like it had done with Ajak, instantly triggering a vision of Arishem to Sersi, even though she did not maintain contact for long. It was not before Sersi visited Gilgamesh and Thena in Australia that Sersi was able to use the sphere to have a lengthy conversation with Arishem, during which she learned the true nature and purpose of the Eternals.
As the Eternals looked for a way to achieve the Uni-Mind, Phastos hypothesized that the communication sphere could be repurposed to connect the Eternals together. He thus used his powers to slowly extract the sphere from Sersi, before using its components to create bracelets to be used by the Eternals to join the Uni-Mind.[1]
Eros' Sphere[]
As an Eternal, Eros also wielded a communication sphere. Upon arriving inside the Domo, he showed it to Thena, Druig and Makkari, mentioning how their fellow Eternals were in trouble after being abducted by Arishem the Judge.[1]
Capabilities[]
An artifact of extreme complexity, the communication sphere enabled its owner to communicate with Arishem the Judge by establishing a link with him. Once activated, the sphere briefly left the body of its owner before returning inside, using a point of entry located on the upper chest of its owner. It would then generate illusions of Arishem, which would simulate a face-to-face conversation between Arishem and the user of the sphere.
The sphere can be transferred from one Eternal to another, as demonstrated when Ajak's sphere jumped from Ajak to Sersi. This can be achieved without the new receiver of the sphere having to do anything but be close enough to the previous owner. Once inside its host's body, the sphere seemingly did not affect them to a large extent, causing no pain or disturbance. It could also be safely removed from its host, as demonstrated by Phastos.
