Castillo is a Panamanian General who encountered Ant-Man around the 1960s.

Biography[]

Around the 1960s, Castillo was a general in Panama, Central America. He soon got on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar and was attacked by Ant-Man, who knocked him and his men out and destroyed their convoys.[1]

Behind the Scenes[]

  • Jordi Mollá was cast as Castillo in Ant-Man for an opening sequence set in Central America around the 1960s akin to that of James Bond film. It was even discussed the possibility of having Mollá play Castillo's son during the present day, though that idea was quickly scrapped for feeling too "tonally" disconnected from the film. However, all of Mollá's scenes were cut and the opening sequence was changed, as director Peyton Reed felt that the sequence was becoming too disconnected from the rest of the film during the editing phase.[2]
    • A close source to Mollá stated after the film's release that Mollá felt "deeply hurt" for Reed removing the scene apparently for being a "vestige" of Edgar Wright's earliest drafts for the film. That said, Reed expressed interest in reusing the opening sequence starring Mollá as part of a possible prequel starring Hank Pym's Ant-Man.[3]
  • Castillo originated from the early drafts written by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish for Ant-Man, though back then, Castillo was intended to be a Cuban general. Once Wright departed the project and the film's setting in the timeline changed, Peyton Reed rewrote Castillo as a Panamanian general to make the movie historically accurate.[2]
  • Castillo was inspired by the Latin American politician Fidel Castro, who served as President of Cuba from 1976 to 2008.[4]
