Captain Marvel 2 is an upcoming superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superheroine of the same name. The film is a sequel to Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. It will be an installment of Phase Five. The film will be released in the United States on July 8, 2022.

In February 2019, before the release of Captain Marvel, Brie Larson revealed that they were already talks for a sequel. She also expressed her interest to see Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in that sequel.[2]

In March 2019, Kevin Feige mentioned that they had "pretty amazing" ideas for a potential sequel to Captain Marvel.[3] He later revealed that the sequel may be set in the past, and explore the time gap between the end of the first film and Captain Marvel's appearance in Avengers: Endgame.[4]

On July 20, 2019, at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Kevin Feige confirmed that many projects, including a Captain Marvel sequel, were in development.[5][6]

On January 22, 2020, it was reported that Marvel Studios had tapped Megan McDonnell to pen a script for a Captain Marvel sequel. It was also reported that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who directed Captain Marvel, would not be returning to helm the sequel and that Marvel Studios is hoping to find a female filmmaker to direct the film, which is eyeing a potential 2022 release. Furthermore, it was reported that the film will be set in the present day.[1]
