Captain America Comics are a series of comic books published in the United States of America during World War II. Designed to help boost the American morale, they told the stories of Captain America's war-time adventures, fictionalizing the actions of the real hero Steve Rogers.
History[]
Issue #1[]
Issue #1 of Captain America was published in 1943 and was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. The comic told Captain America's origin and contained another story which featured Cap, alongside his sidekick Bucky Barnes, taking on Rathcone and his goons.[1] This comic came into the possession of children and members of the United States Army.[2]
Gary Hendricks' Comic[]
Gary Hendricks, a young fan of Captain America, received a copy of a comic book edited to help boost morale during World War II that tells an action-packed story about the adventures of Captain America.[3]
Howard Stark's S.H.I.E.L.D. Box[]
Nick Fury provided Tony Stark with a S.H.I.E.L.D. box from his father, Howard. Inside the box was a number of items, including two Captain America comics.[4]
Charity Auction[]
On April 30, 2016, a copy of Captain America #1 signed by Steve Rogers was sold for $1.5 million at a charity auction.[5]
Smithsonian Institution[]
In 2024, the Captain America exhibit in the Smithsonian Institution was updated and pictures of the Captain America comics were on display.[6]
New Jersey AvengerCon[]
In 2025, Captain America comics were on display at New Jersey AvengerCon at an exhibit dedicated to Steve Rogers.[7]

In an alternate universe, comic of Captain America were sold as part of Captain America's USO promotion for World War II.[8]
