Captain America: Road to War is a comic book set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is set between the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.[1]
Synopsis[]
Captain America and Black Widow must train the new Avengers recruits to work together as a team.
- Their first mission: stop the giant robot, Ultimo!
- Featuring Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Falcon and War Machine!
- Bonus 58|Tales of Suspense #58 included.
Plot[]
Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff are sparring in the Avengers Compound when Steve asks Natasha to evaluate the Avengers. She gives her thoughts on Falcon, Wanda Maximoff, War Machine, and Vision when Steve asks about how she thinks of them as a team. She tells him that he needs to assemble them to find out.
In Eastern Europe, HYDRA agents are working to collect Ultron sentry parts left over from the Battle of Sokovia. The parts are being used to construct Ultimo, a giant robot. HYDRA unleashes Ultimo upon a small village nearby.
Back at the facility, Captain America receives an alert about the attack in Eastern Europe and decides this will be the best chance to see what they're made of. He contacts Tony Stark asking if he'd like to assist them, but he refuses, saying his new Quinjet engine designs should get them there fast.
The team encounters Ultimo as they enter the scene and proceed to attack it to little avail. Falcon sends Redwing to scan it and discovers that Ultimo is being controlled by HYDRA soldiers hiding behind a tree line nearby. He and Black Widow ambush them and cut off their feed, leaving Ultimo open for attack. The remaining Avengers strike the now incapacitated robot as Scarlet Witch destroys it from the inside. The parts are collected and the HYDRA soldiers are seized.
In the epilogue, Tony Stark is seen working on his new gauntlet technology.
