- "Hold onto your butts!"
- ―Byrdie the Duck to Guardians of the Multiverse[src]
Byrdie the Duck is the hybrid daughter of Darcy and Howard the Duck. As an egg, Byrdie was sought after by several factions across the universe due to the cosmic power she was rumored to possess, prompting her parents to go on the run with her. While evading the clutches of each vying faction on Jotunheim, Byrdie hatched from her egg and unleashed a blast of powerful cosmic energy that decimated her attackers, allowing her parents to return back home with her in peace.
Years later after growing up, Byrdie became a member of the Guardians of the Multiverse led by Captain Carter. During a mission in Xandar-625, the Guardians discovered Watcher was in trouble after finding shards of the Observational Plane, prompting them to devise a way to reach the Fifth Dimension to rescue him. Despite their initial failures and Carter's capture at the hands of Executioner, Byrdie and the remaining Guardians found help in the form of a Variant of Infinity Ultron, who provided them the means to cross into the Fifth Dimension.
The Guardians managed to rescue their captive friends from the Order of the Watchers, who killed Infinity Ultron and marooned them in another universe. Unable to defeat the Watchers on their own, Byrdie and the Guardians were forced to swear the Watcher's Oath, imbuing them with great power. After a long battle, the Watchers prepared an attack that threatened to eliminate the Guardians and their respective Variants all across the Multiverse, forcing Carter to sacrifice herself to transport everyone to the Reforged Universe, where Strange Supreme's lingering presence depowered the Watchers, forcing them to make amends with Uatu. After the battle, Byrdie joined the Guardians in the Observational Plane with Uatu to mourn Carter's death.
Biography[]
Child of Destiny[]
Birth[]

Byrdie is delivered to her parents as an egg
- "What do you know about the Cosmic Convergence?"
"Wait. The Convergence? Wasn't that on my due date?"
"Exactly. And many believe the planetary alignment was a sign. The birth of a great new power." - ―Nick Fury and Darcy the Duck[src]
Byrdie was delivered as an unhatched egg as the daughter of Howard and Darcy the Duck, who labored her for nine hours. Byrdie's birth was heralded by the Convergence, leading many across the universe to believe the child possessed great cosmic power. While nurturing Byrdie's egg, the the Ducks often sang "I Was Made for Lovin' You" by KISS as a lullaby, which they believed she would love.[1]
Family Cruise[]

Byrdie is placed in Grandmaster's care
- "This must be the adorable little reason we're all here today."
- ―Grandmaster[src]
One day, Byrdie and her parents were invited by Grandmaster to an intergalactic cruise aboard his luxury ship, the SS Grand Master. Aboard the ship, Grandmaster convinced Howard and Darcy the Duck to let his staff take care of Byrdie while they relaxed during the voyage.

Byrdie is abducted by Yondu Udonta
To their horror, the two soon discovered that Grandmaster wanted to consume the egg during the ship's grand brunch. Before Byrdie's egg could be cooked in a fire by Miek, the brunch was interrupted by Yondu Udonta, who stole the egg. Despite giving chase, Howard and Darcy were unable to prevent Yondu from escaping with Byrdie's egg, who managed to escape through a Jump Point.[1]
The Zealots' Ritual[]

Byrdie is taken by Kaecilius
Byrdie was taken to Knowhere, where Yondu Udonta intended to sell her to Collector. Upon arriving however, Yondu instead encountered Kaecilius and his Zealots, who intended to use Byrdie as a vessel for their master Dormammu. Having discovered both Byrdie's location and importance from S.H.I.E.L.D., Howard and Darcy the Duck arrived on Knowhere and infiltrated the Zealots just as Kaecilius started the ritual to transfer Dormammu into the egg.

Byrdie is offered as a vessel for Dormammu
Before the ritual could succeed, S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived and prevented the ritual's completion, seizing the egg in the process. The Zealots then fought S.H.I.E.L.D. for possession of the egg, using Inter-Dimensional Portals to keep it away from them. Fortunately, Byrdie's parents managed to retrieve the egg amidst the chaos before using an Inter-Dimensional Portal to return back to their ship and escape Knowhere.[1]
Free-for-All on Jotunheim[]

Byrdie and her parents on Jotunheim
- "This kid might have some magic of its own!"
- ―Darcy the Duck[src]
S.H.I.E.L.D. soon issued a galactic-wide Ivory Alert for Byrdie's egg. Upon hearing this, Howard and Darcy the Duck decided to lay low with the egg on Jotunheim under Loki's protection. However, the family was quickly discovered by Nick Fury and his agents, prompting them to flee. At that moment, Laufey arrived with his forces and seized the egg from the couple, dismissing Fury's orders to surrender the egg to him.

Howard and Darcy the Duck run from their pursuers with Byrdie
Just then, Zeus appeared with his Spartans and used Thunderbolt to attack while Byrdie's parents reclaimed her egg and ran away amidst the chaos. Malekith and his Dark Elves then arrived and joined the chase, seeking to use the egg to plunge the Nine Realms into eternal darkness before being attacked by Kaecilius and his Zealots. The the Ducks then ran into the Black Order, who they accidentally informed of Byrdie's power, prompting them to summon Thanos to Jotunheim.

Byrdie and her parents escape on a shield
Zeus managed to momentarily knock Byrdie's egg out of the Duck's arms, though Darcy managed to recover her as Grandmaster arrived aboard his ship, who attempted to steal the egg using a tractor beam. Zeus then used Thunderbolt to disable the ship, causing the egg to pummel from the skies. The Duck managed to recover it before it flew off the edge of a cliff while Darcy used a discarded Spartan shield as a sled to pick the two up and slide down the icy hills away from the battle.

Byrdie begins to glow
Byrdie and her parents narrowly evaded Laufey with Loki's help, but were quickly thrown from the shield, landing in an open canyon as their countless pursuers began running down the slope after them. The the Ducks resigned themselves to their fate and began singing "I Was Made for Lovin' You" to Byrdie one more time, causing her egg to suddenly glow and levitate into the air. This sight caused all of the armies to momentarily stop and bask in the event before resuming their chase.

Byrdie hatches from her egg
As the armies closed in on the family, Byrdie began sending out bolts of cosmic energy to dispatch the attackers while her parents continued singing the song. Eventually however, the armies managed to overpower the the Ducks, who struggled to keep them away from Byrdie as her egg began to finally hatch, sending out a cosmic blast that knocked everyone down. The the Ducks watched as Byrdie then sent out a chain of cosmic energy into all of her attackers, vaporizing them and ending the battle.

Byrdie sleeps in her mother's arms
Now free from her egg, the newborn Byrdie flew down into her parents' arms and began sleeping. Fury and his surviving forces then appeared, who apologized for their actions and remarked that Byrdie's power was the safest with its family before departing Jotunheim. Loki and Laufey soon arrived and asked if the family would like to take a vacation at the ski resort on Jotunheim as compensation for their actions, though Darcy declined the offer and instead wished to return home.[1]
Returning Home[]

Byrdie lays in her crib
- "Aw. Our little Byrdie. She's perfect."
"Yeah. She is, isn't she?" - ―Darcy the Duck and Howard the Duck[src]
Byrdie and her family managed to return back to their apartment on Earth, where she was put to sleep by her parents in her crib while Watcher observed them. The two admired her beauty before quietly exiting the room, only for Byrdie to immediately begin crying as soon as the door closed, prompting them to barge back into the room and immediately begin tending to her.[1]
Guardian of the Multiverse[]
Recruitment[]

Byrdie with the other Guardians of the Multiverse
Years later, Byrdie, now a young woman, encountered Captain Carter, who recruited her to the Guardians of the Multiverse alongside Kahhori and Storm to help safeguard the Multiverse from threats. Despite being away from her universe, Byrdie remained in contact with her parents through the use of a trans-universal communicator created by her mother, who often asked her to pick up special donuts from another universe for her.[2]
Attack on Xandar-625[]

Byrdie flies into battle with Captain Carter and Kahhori
Byrdie and the rest of the Guardians of the Multiverse ventured to Xandar of Xandar-625 to respond to an ongoing attack caused by the Champion of HYDRA, who threatened to devour the entire planet. Byrdie flew down from the Guardians' ship and introduced herself to Nebula, Korg and Groot alongside the rest of her team before flying into battle against the Champion.

Byrdie battles the Champion of HYDRA
Byrdie flew around the tentacles of the Champion while Captain Carter and Kahhori worked their way up toward its head, blasting several tentacles with beams of cosmic energy from her eyes. Byrdie then infused her wings with energy and sliced through a tentacle with great speed before witnessing Carter puncture through the eyes of the Champion with help from Storm and Kahhori, killing the beast and saving Xandar from complete annihilation.

Byrdie puzzled by the mysterious shards
Byrdie soon regrouped with Captain Carter and the rest of the team, complimenting Carter's killing blow. While talking with Nebula about their line of work, Byrdie and the rest of the Guardians heard a noise in the skies above and watched as three mysterious shards landed in front of them. Realizing that the shards originated from the Observational Plane outside of the known universe, the team quickly deduced that something had happened to Watcher.[2]
Harnessing the Shards[]

Byrdie plays foosball with Kahhori
- "Now, just to chart a course alone, this ship's gonna need one hell of an upgrade. I mean, you'd have to bind the ship to some sort of Fifth Dimensional, uh... material."
- ―Byrdie[src]
Back on the Guardians' ship, Byrdie engaged Kahhori in a game of foosball while Storm watched. Byrdie managed to score a point on Kahhori using her "duck wrists," something Kahhori criticized as being a power that they weren't allowed to use during the game. Byrdie countered that it wasn't a power but rather a skill, though Storm sided with Kahhori on the matter before stepping away to talk with Captain Carter about the shards.

Byrdie calls out Kahhori's use of her powers
Byrdie and Kahhori continued playing their game, and just as Byrdie was about to score again using her duck wrists skill, Kahhori used her powers to teleport the ball into Byrdie's own goal. Byrdie immediately criticized Kahhori's use of her portals, though Kahhori retorted that they were an "ancestral gift," something Byrdie found amusing as Kahhori stepped away to join Carter and Storm.

Byrdie gets an idea
Byrdie made herself a cup of coffee and listened in as the others discussed traveling to the Fifth Dimension, which Byrdie questioned was even allowed. Storm remarked that the Fifth Dimension was a higher plane of existence, and Byrdie explained that in order to even reach it, they would have to upgrade their ship using Fifth Dimensional material. Byrdie quickly realized that they could harness the power of the shards in their possession to do so.

Byrdie unveils her work on the Time Sphere
Byrdie began working on modifying one of the ship's Time Sphere pods to channel the power of the shards, often gesturing for Carter to refill her cup of coffee for her while she worked. Eventually, Byrdie completed the modifications on the Time Sphere and unveiled it to the others. Byrdie inserted one of the three shards into the Time Sphere and deployed it outside of the ship in order to safely test its newfound capabilities.

Byrdie excited by the rising power output
Byrdie remotely operated the Time Sphere from the ship's bridge and began charging it with the power of the shard. Byrdie smiled in awe as the device's power meter slowly filled up and the device outside began generating a passage into the Fifth Dimension. Kahhori believed it to have worked, though Byrdie remarked that it only would once the power meter was completely filled. Just before it could reach Byrdie's requirements, the shard overloaded the device, destroying both in the process.[2]
Alternative Methods[]

Byrdie rocks out to Storm's power
- "Infinity Ultron? You're serious?"
"It is a terrible idea. But maybe... sorta in a good way?"" - ―Captain Carter and Byrdie[src]
Having cost them one of the three shards, Byrdie apologized to the other Guardians, though they reassured their friend that it was fine and that her efforts were a great try. Storm then suggested that it was time for divine intervention and led the others to a forge with one of the two shards. Using a combination of light and dark Asgardian magic, Storm tried to supercharge the shard with Mjølnir, which Byrdie viewed as "metal."

Byrdie and Storm reassure Captain Carter
Unfortunately, the spell failed to work, causing Storm's shard to be lost and leaving the Guardians with only one left. Returning to the ship's lounge, Captain Carter remarked that they now had one last chance to save Watcher before they lost him forever, prompting Byrdie and Storm to reassure her that they would come up with something like they always did. Despite the support, Carter remarked that they were running out of options.

The Guardians formulate a plan to recruit an Infinity Ultron Variant
At that moment, Kahhori suggested they call in help from the one person who was able to breach into the Observational Plane before: Infinity Ultron. Byrdie remarked that it was a terrible idea but not one without its positives, and together the team formulated a plan to locate a Variant of Infinity Ultron to help them reach the Fifth Dimension, with Byrdie throwing in the offer to reprogram his AI and prune the universe with a Reset Charge they previously stole from the Time Variance Authority if things went arwy.[2]
Attack on Infinity Ultron[]

Byrdie on call with her parents
- "Oh, if you're about to "but, actually" your whole universal destruction thing-"
- ―Byrdie to Infinity Ultron[src]
The next morning, Byrdie received a call from her parents, who asked for the donuts they wanted. Byrdie sluggishly ignored them in favor of wanting to drink her coffee, only to soon notice that the last shard was gone. Byrdie immediately put the ship on red alert, prompting Kahhori and Storm to run in. Byrdie noted that both the shard and one of their Time Sphere pods were missing, causing Storm to realize Captain Carter went to confront an Infinity Ultron Variant alone in order to ensure her allies stayed out of harm's way.

Byrdie attacks Infinity Ultron
Byrdie, Kahhori and Storm used their ship to warp to the universe Carter traveled to, where they discovered her fragmented shield on the ground. Just then, the universe's Infinity Ultron appeared and noted that she was gone, prompting Byrdie and the others to attack him in anger. Byrdie flew around Infinity Ultron in the fight, blasting him with her optical beams until he used the Time Stone to freeze the Guardians in place.

Byrdie listens to Infinity Ultron's story
Infinity Ultron remarked that he could end them if he wanted, but revealed he had no intentions to before unfreezing them. Infinity Ultron then revealed to the trio that Carter was captured by Executioner, who Byrdie noted had no qualms with interfering. Byrdie listened as Infinity Ultron stated that he realized the errors of his ways after eons of reflection and offered his support, revealing he had the last shard in his possession.

The Guardians watch Infinity Ultron destroy the shard
To their surprise, the trio watched as Infinity Ultron shattered the shard, only to absorb its power and elevate his senses. Infinity Ultron basked in the sensation before agreeing to join the Guardians in their mission. Together, the group returned to the Guardians' ship, which Infinity Ultron supplied with the energy needed to cross into the Fifth Dimension. Byrdie was left awestruck at the vast amount of power, unsure on what to call something that was beyond "off the charts" before Infinity Ultron stated it was "infinity."

Byrdie prepares for the warp jump to the Fifth Dimension
Before warping, Byrdie listened as Kahhori asked if Infinity Ultron could see the future, though he revealed that while he was unable to, it also meant that their enemies could not either. With everything ready, Byrdie made some final adjustments and watched with excitement as the power meter reached maximum power, allowing the ship to warp jump to the Fifth Dimension in an instant.[2]
Confronting the Watchers[]
Rescue of Captain Carter and Watcher[]

Byrdie piloting the ship
- "Hey, big guy. Where to, huh?"
"There is no "where" to go. Ultron will not be able to hold off The Eminence for long." - ―Byrdie and Watcher[src]
Upon reaching the Fifth Dimension, Infinity Ultron used his powers to liberate Captain Carter and Watcher before they could be executed by the Order of the Watchers while Byrdie landed the Guardians' ship nearby. When Carter and Watcher were safely on board, Byrdie immediately flew the ship out of the dimension while Infinity Ultron remained behind to keep the Watchers at bay, sacrificing himself in the process.

Byrdie tells everyone to hold on
Byrdie questioned Watcher where they should go, though he stated that there wasn't any place in the Multiverse where they could hide from the other Watchers. Byrdie then suggested they instead go in-between the Multiverse, adding that Infinity Ultron's upgrades to the ship could theoretically allow them to do this, though her last theoretical comment was received with concern from the others. Byrdie however ignored this and told everyone to hold on before forcing the ship into the seams of the Multiverse itself.

Byrdie notices the power outage
In order to stop the Watchers, Kahhori suggested that they strip them of their power, prompting Carter and Watcher to explain that they can go to the Reforged Universe created by Strange Supreme, whose spirit could assist them in spite of his death. Byrdie agreed to the idea and quickly prepared the ship to jump to Strange's new universe, though the ship suddenly lost power as Eminence, Executioner and Incarnate appeared, who declared that there was no more running before destroying the ship.[3]
Battle of the Cosmos[]

Byrdie distraught by the loss of her ship
Byrdie and her allies were thrown out of their exploding ship and onto an unknown world, where she managed to land safely using her wings. Byrdie lamented the loss of her ship and apologized to everyone for stranding them a few universes short of the Reforged Universe. At that moment, Eminence, Executioner and Incarnate appeared, prompting Byrdie to fire a beam of energy at them with Storm and Watcher while Kahhori tried to warp them away.

Byrdie pinned against a rock
To their shock, Byrdie and the others found that their efforts had no effect on the three Watchers, who admonished Watcher for his actions. Eminence then levitated the heroes up into the air and threw them into a rock formation, pinning them there with his telekinesis while Watcher used a protection spell to keep them alive from the sheer force. Watcher informed his allies that he had an idea, which Byrdie was more than willing to listen to. Watcher explained that they must take the Watcher's Oath, and with no options left, the Guardians recited and accepted the oath.

Byrdie with the power of the Watchers
In a flash of energy, all of the Guardians received the power of the Watchers and faced down the three opposing Watchers, who donned their battle armor and weapons. Byrdie listened as Eminence called Watcher a no one, who corrected him by stating his name was Uatu before leading the Guardians into battle against the Watchers. Amidst the initial clash, Byrdie swooped in and attacked Incarnate after he swatted Captain Carter aside.

Byrdie battles Incarnate
Byrdie re-engaged Incarnate once the battle had reached the surface of the planet and slashed at him before flying into the sky to flourish her newfound power. Incarnate screamed out at Byrdie, calling her a heretic before attempting to shoot her down with red streams of energy. Byrdie managed to masterfully evade all of Incarnate's attacks and rapidly spun toward him, delivering a powerful kick to his face.

Byrdie endures Incarnate's attacks
Byrdie continued to battle Incarnate with help from Storm. Byrdie fired a beam of energy at Incarnate, who retaliated and blasted her into a large rock, calling her an abomination. Incarnate slammed into Byrdie, sending her completely through the rock and delivering several powerful blows before throwing her to the ground, where Storm blasted Incarnate away. The two heroes tried to retaliate, though Incarnate stopped them with his telekinesis and threw them around like ragdolls before tossing Byrdie aside.

The Guardians corner the Order of the Watchers using their combined powers
Elsewhere, Uatu and Eminence traded a blow powerful enough to shatter the planet, sending everyone flying. Byrdie soon attacked both Executioner and Incarnate with a beam of energy, giving Kahhori, Carter and Storm time to help her subdue the two Watchers with their combined powers. Uatu then threw Eminence into their combined powers, trapping all three Watchers. Unable to let his former masters die however, Uatu ordered the Guardians to stop their attack and attempted to reason with them one last time. Unfortunately, the three Watchers refused to yield and quickly flew into the air to combine their powers into a single all-out attack.

Byrdie and her Variants are nearly wiped from existence
Byrdie and the others held their ground as Eminence announced that they would not only kill them, but also wipe out all of their Variants as well. Byrdie struggled to hold on as apparitions of her other Variants faded out behind her until Carter gained the resolve to push through the attack, creating a massive explosion and killing her. Byrdie staggered as the apparitions of her Variants returned to her before she was pulled into the ensuing singularity along with everyone else, transporting them to the Reforged Universe.

The Guardians see the rising sun
Byrdie laid on the surface of the Moon with the others, having been tired out from the fighting. As the Sun crested over Earth in the distance, Byrdie stood up and watched the sunrise, listening as Storm and Kahhori realized that Carter managed to get them to their destination while Uatu and Eminence made amends once the latter realized he could no longer use his powers while in this universe.[3]
Remembering a Friend[]

Byrdie silently mourns
Byrdie joined Uatu, Kahhori and Storm in the Observational Plane, holding onto Captain Carter's shield as they mourned her passing. Byrdie somberly listened as Uatu stated he felt that Carter was still watching over them before the group restored the fragmented shield with their powers.

Byrdie watches the shield float away
Byrdie watched as Storm then sent the shield adrift through the Observational Plane to honor Carter's legacy and the sacrifice she made for them all. Byrdie listened as Kahhori stated that death was not the end in her culture, leaving Storm to ask if an afterlife existed beyond the Multiverse, which Uatu stated, in a Multiverse full of endless possibilities, was merely a matter of "what if?"[3]
Personality[]
- "So metal!"
- ―Byrdie[src]
Byrdie is a supportive and easygoing person who cares for her friends. In spite of her punk rock appearance inspired by her parents singing rock songs as a lullaby to her as an egg, Byrdie possesses a quirky and expressive personality, leading her to often quip with her allies and be creative with the presentation of her inventions, most notably the energy output meter abaord the Guardians of the Multiverse's Ship, which is decorated with various slang phrases. Byrdie regularly enjoys coffee, often gesturing for a cup whenever she was working on modifying a Time Sphere and opting to have one before answering her parents while on call. Byrdie is also shown to apologize every time she makes a mistake, which often leads her allies to comfort her.
Byrdie is shown to be rash when deeply upset and angered, such as when she immediately attacked Infinity Ultron without hesitation after believing he had killed Captain Carter without letting him explain what happened. Byrdie remained suspicious of Infinity Ultron given his history, initially believing he was trying to justify his universal massacre when he was elaborating his change of heart over eons of isolation. Once Infinity Ultron proved he had indeed reformed and was willing to help the Guardians of the Multiverse in their mission to rescue Watcher and Captain Carter from the Order of the Watchers, Byrdie was willing to praise Infinity Ultron's work on upgrading the Guardians' ship.
