History

Edwin Jarvis' Dishonorable Discharge

"Before the war, I served under a general. We traveled a great deal. We were in Budapest when I met Ana."
Edwin Jarvis to Peggy Carter[src]

Edwin Jarvis, under service of a British Army General, traveled to Budapest and met Ana, the girl who would become his wife, while she worked in a hotel tailor shop. Ana sold him a beautiful tie, and Jarvis quickly fell in love with her.

As World War II began, Ana's safety was endangered given she was Jewish, and Jarvis asked the general to use one of the several letters of transit he carried in his safe to ensure her safety, but he refused to sign. Jarvis had to forge the general's signature, for which he was arrested in London and dishonorably discharged from the Army.[2]

The mission ended with a five-story building exploding and the two agents being forced to spend ten days hiding from the Hungarian authorities before being able to leave town.[4] Romanoff would later say to Barton that their confrontations with the Chitauri during the Battle of New York reminded her of Budapest, something Barton disagreed.[5]

Mercenary Mission

"It's better than that crap you cooked up in Budapest."
"I didn't have much to work with. It was farm to table."
Isabelle Hartley and Idaho[src]

Isabelle Hartley, Lance Hunter, and Idaho worked together in a mission in Budapest, where Idaho cooked something awful. He excused himself saying he did not have the right tools or raw materials to make it work. Besides its awful taste, the meal broke one of Hunter's teeth.[6]

"I came here because I thought you wouldn't."
Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova[src]

In 2016, after becoming a wanted fugitive, Natasha Romanoff returned to Budapest upon receiving a package and note, where she encountered and fought Yelena Belova in the apartment she had once stayed in. After the two came to a truce, they were pursued by other Black Widows and went on a chase through the city from them and Taskmaster. Taskmaster caused their car to explode and they were forced into a subway station, where they fled to safety.[4]
