In 2007, William Lopez took his daughter Maya to train at the academy so she could learn to defend herserlf from assailants and other unsavory types. Maya met another student named Kazi Kazimierczak, who was also training himself to become a deadly fighter. Maya watched Kazimierczak fight and observed his abilities. During a break in class, May sat on a bench while talking to William. William had to leave, and he told Maya that Wilson Fisk would be watching her. Practiced resumed, and Maya Lopez approached her sparring opponent, easily defeating her using a perfected version of the move she observed Kazimierczak using.[1]
