Biography[]
Infiltrating an A.I.M. Base[]
- "Stay put, I'll be right there."
"I'll do my best. It's not exactly safe around here." - ―Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff[src]
Natasha Romanoff was sent to infiltrate a power plant in Siberia being controlled by Valentin Shatalov. She was able to get a picture of a device which Shatalov was using to generate power and send it to S.H.I.E.L.D., but was since discovered by Kearson DeWitt's forces. She hid from Shatalov's forces and moved through the base, trying to avoid detection as she activated her transponder. Stark responded and asked Romanoff to stay put, so Romanoff said that she would do her best.
Stark found Romanoff, who told him that he was late. Stark asked if Romanoff was hurt, so Romanoff explained that the entire facility was on high alert and that it would be difficult for them to get an extraction. She reminded Stark that her uniform was not bulletproof, and Nick Fury reported that they owuld be sending a transponder. As Romanoff and Stark attacked the soldiers around them, Romanoff realized her rifle would not suffice. Stark killed the soldier using a turret, so Romanoff rushed to use it. Romanoff used the turret to defend her position until a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicopter arrived and Romanoff could board it using a grappling hook.
Romanoff sat with Fury, Stark, Pepper Potts, and James Rhodes to explain what she had learned. She revealed that DeWitt was in charge of the Crimson Dynamo project. Romanoff slept with Stark and talked in her sleep, revealing the location of a base used by DeWitt. The next day, Romanoff joined Stark and Rhodes and explained she had stolen a gunship that could get them into the base.[2]
Project P.R.O.T.E.A.N.[]
- "Open fire!"
"My pleasure. Good luck, boys." - ―A.I.M. Soldier and Natasha Romanoff[src]
Romanoff flew with Tony Stark and James Rhodes, where she contacted the control and requested to land. However, A.I.M. reported back that their assignment would be shifted to evacuation duty. Romanoff sent her landing passcode, but the soldier simply told her to land and warned that she was going into a hot zone, ordering them to be weapons free. The A.I.M. soldier asked for help and to open fire, so Romanoff fired on both the drones and the soldiers they were fighting as Stark and Rhodes left and started fighting.
Stark destroyed the facility, and Romanoff assisted Fury in assessing the situation, shooting one already dead guard. She did so again, distracting Stark. Stark asked her to stop, but Romanoff explained that she did not trust technology from Project P.R.O.T.E.A.N. Stark and Rhodes' armors were suddenly taken over by Ultimo, who threatened to kill everyone Stark cared about.
Romanoff attended a meeting in which Stark explained that Ultimo would like be targeting Project Greengrid, which had the ability to weaponize the sky, and Rhodes and Stark prepared to fight.[2]
