King Blackagar "Black Bolt" Boltagon was the Inhuman King and a member of the Illuminati. Alongside his team, Black Bolt helped killThanos on Titan. However, after the battle, he was tasked with killing Doctor Strange, as the Illuminati deemed him a threat after he caused an Incursion by using the Darkhold. In 2024, Black Bolt and the Illuminati gathered to judge another universe's Doctor Strange, who had entered their universe, although their proceedings were interrupted by Scarlet Witch, dreamwalking in her alternate self's body. Black Bolt's mouth was removed by Scarlet Witch, causing him to accidentally kill himself by bursting his brain with his own muffled scream.
Black Bolt was an Inhuman that went through Terrigenesis, which made his voice an incredible power, as even a single word could destroy almost anything in front of him. Being the King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt was made the keeper of the Terrigen Mists, and his status and power soon made him be approached by Stephen Strange to join the Illuminati, a group of powerful individuals that would make the difficult decisions no one else could.[1]
When Thanos waged war, the Illuminati banded together to stop him, except for Stephen Strange, who used the Darkhold to look for solutions in the Multiverse by dream walking. Strange's method weren't successful, but he continued dream walking, which destroyed another universe so he confessed himself to the Illuminati. Strange renounced the Darkhold, and the group found the Book of Vishanti, which they used to defeat Thanos. However, Strange still posed a threat, so Black Bolt was tasked with killing him, using his voice to completely obliterate him, saying he was sorry.
After reaching to Earth, Black Bolt and the rest of the Illuminati informed Christine Palmer about the reality of Strange's death, whilst telling the rest of the world the lie that Strange died as a hero, in order to ensure that humans keep their believes on superheroes.[1]
When a Doctor Strange from another universe was discovered in their world, he was brought before the Illuminati so they could decide what to do with him and America Chavez. As Karl Mordo introduced the members, Strange mocked them, including making fun mainly of Black Bolt's name and his helmet. Black Bolt threatened Strange because of his arrogance towards them, and Captain Carter made a warning of Black Bolt's power, which Strange ignored.
Strange attempted to warn them about Scarlet Witch, but they ignored him, as they were more concerned with him. The rest of the Illuminati proceeded to tell Strange that he was the greatest danger to the Multiverse, explaining how their version of Stephen Strange was corrupted by the Darkhold and destroyed another universe, resulting in them having to kill him. Because of this experience, it made them realize that possibly every Strange was capable of such destruction, which was why they had him brought before them.[1]
Before Scarlet Witch could reach Chavez, the four Illuminati members managed to block her path. Mister Fantastic told Scarlet Witch to stop, saying she could still walk away from it all, and attempted to sympathize with her, telling her about his children. Scarlet Witch refused to stand down, and made it clear she was going to kill them.
Black Bolt accidentally kills himself
Mister Fantastic explained that Black Bolt could destroy her with a whisper from his mouth; in response, Scarlet Witch used her chaos magic to remove his mouth. When he realized his mouth was gone, Black Bolt began to panic, and tried to omit a sonic scream, only for it to reverberate and blast back into his head, killing him.[1]
Personality[]
Black Bolt was regal, quiet, stern, yet caring at all the same time. He stayed quiet in order to protect those around him from his sonic scream, only using it as a last resort, as shown during his confrontation with Wanda Maximoff. He felt extreme guilt for having to kill Doctor Strange, telling Strange that he was sorry before killing him. As he was aware of his own immense power, Boltagon has displayed a great capacity for patience and composure, being able to withstand Doctor Strange's many insults without showing any signs of anger or displeasure. But his hesitation to use his power ultimately led to his death, as Maximoff sealed his mouth before he could use his sonic scream, urging him to scream in panic which caused his head to implode.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
Inhuman Physiology: Black Bolt is an Inhuman who achieved his genetic potential upon undergoing Terrigenesis, gaining superhuman powers.
Black Bolt, after achieving his genetic potential, developed the ability to release hypersonically amplified sound waves through his vocal cords. However, he cannot diminish the destructive potential of his voice. He had to use his scream to obliterate Stephen Strange after he became too corrupted by the Darkhold. He later attempted to use this on Scarlet Witch, but this backfired on him when she removed his mouth with her powers, resulting in his accidental grisly demise.
Abilities[]
Bilingualism: Black Bolt is fluent in his native English, as well as sign language. After undergoing Terrigenesis, he only uses sign language as a way to communicate with others due to his sound wave powers being permanently active, in order to avoid unintentionally hurting or killing someone.
Black Bolt occasionally resided in the facility in Central Park whenever the Illuminati comes together for a meeting. When the Illuminati met to discuss the fate of Doctor Strange, he went to the headquarters.
