Captain America damages the Time Stone
Arriving on Earth through the Space Stone portal, Thanos ended up in Wakanda, where he was confronted by Captain America. The two engaged in a fight and despite Thanos' advantage, Captain America was able to evade his strike and damage the Infinity Gauntlet with his Wakandan Shields. Due to the damage caused to the Time Stone, Captain America inadvertently caused a temporal anomaly, merging his timeline with a seperate 1602 timeline.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "I'm searching for a person, the forerunner, who would've been the first person transported to this world from the future and the reason reality is collapsing around us."
- ―Captain Carter to Tony Stark[src]
In the past timeline, everyone lost their memories and adapted to their new life in 1602 England, with the Asgardian Royal Family becoming an English monarchy. However, due to the anomaly, the timeline was plagued with rifts in spacetime that were catastrophic to everyone there, so Scarlet Witch attempted to fix it by summonning Captain Carter from another universe. She believed that Carter was a key to stopping the rifts from tearing their reality apart, however, it did not help and Queen Hela died after being sucked into one of those rifts.
Becoming the new king, Thor blamed Carter for her inability to stop the crisis and prevent his sister's death, and thus ordered Carter to be captured. While on the run from the royal family, Carter found out that the crisis was caused by another being that came from another timeline known as a Forerunner. She recruited Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, as the latter had no memories of his past life and was unaware that he was the Forerunner, to steal the Scepter from Thor. Using the Scepter, they found out that Rogers was the Forerunner. Rogers recalled his fight with Thanos and sacrificed his life to fix the anomaly and save both timelines.[1]
Meanwhile, Thanos was captured by Strange Supreme, among other "universe killers", and held at the Sanctum Infinitum, as Strange was planning to sacrifice their lives to restore his universe.[2]
