The Battle of Celestial Island was a military confrontation between the United States and Japan, masterminded by Leader to publicly humiliate U.S. President Thaddeus Ross. Following rising tensions after the White House shooting during the Celestial Island World Summit, Leader leaked classified intelligence to Japan suggesting the United States had previously stolen their adamantium. This provoked both the United States and Japan into deploying naval forces to the island to assert control.
As the two nations were at a standoff, tensions escalated further when two United States Air Force pilots went rogue under Leader's mind control, and opened fire on the Japanese fleet, threatening to ignite full-scale war. However, Captain America and Falcon intervened, neutralizing the rogue aircraft and safely disabling Japanese fighters without loss of life. Although Falcon was injured by a missile strike, their intervention ultimately prevented an international crisis, foiling Leader's plan.
