Hey y'all! Looking for another version of the Battle of Babylon? See its event hub!

"We continue to keep Babylon safe from the Deviants. More people have come to seek refuge. It is now the largest city on Earth."
"The Eternals serving their mission across the galaxies will learn from your success."
Ajak and Arishem the Judge[src]

The Battle of Babylon was a battle in the ancient Mesopotamian city of Babylon during the Neo-Babylonian Empire. It was fought between the Eternals and a swarm of Deviants led by Enkidu, who preyed on the city due to its continued expansion and development.

Background[]

"We were instructed not to interfere in any conflicts unless Deviants were involved."
Sersi to Dane Whitman[src]

In the early history of Earth, the planet was chosen by Arishem the Judge to host the seed of a future Celestial, Tiamut the Communicator. Arishem sent the Deviants on Earth to eliminate apex predators and ensure the emergence of intelligent life, but the Deviants evolved and became predators themselves, thus killing humans and delaying the birth of Tiamut. Arishem therefore sent a group of ten Eternals to hunt down the Deviants and help humanity achieve technological process. In the 6th century B.C., the Eternals led by Ajak resided in the city of Babylon, who had become one of the greatest city on Earth due to their protection and assistance. The city was notably known for its Ishtar Gate, which had been built under the command of King Nebuchadnezzar II. Due to its influence, the city was preyed upon by the Deviants.[1]

In 575 B.C., a group of several Deviants led by Enkidu attacked the city, preying on the inhabitants of Babylon that were present outside the walls of the Ishtar Gate. Although they were powerless against the Deviants, humans were rescued by the five warrior Eternals: Ikaris, Gilgamesh, Thena, Kingo and Makkari. During the battle, Thena notably sliced open one Deviant, causing Kingo to complain as he had been targeting the same creature, although he quickly found another Deviant to attack with his energy bullets. Meanwhile, Ikaris protected a young girl from an arachnoid Deviant, slicing off its leg with his optical beams before the Deviant was smashed into a wall and repeatedly struck by Makkari using her superhuman speed.

At the Ishtar Gate, Gilgamesh instructed the Babylonians to quickly take refuge inside the walls of the city. He then confronted Enkidu himself, punching him with his superhuman strength which caused Enkidu to roll over and hit the walls of the Ishtar Gate. The Deviant then stood back and kicked Gilgamesh away, but Gilgamesh was assisted by Makkari as all the other Eternals attacked Enkidu. Both Ikaris and Kingo use their energy attacks against Enkidu, causing several damage, while Gilgamesh threw Thena onto the Deviant, enabling her to land on his back and cut off one of his horns. The Deviant was then hit on the side by a rush from Makkari, causing him to fall. Gilgamesh then returned to deal a final punch which threw Enkidu onto the wall. As Gilgamesh turned his back, the Deviant emerged once more, but Gilgamesh violently hit him one last time, killing it for good.[1]

Aftermath[]

"The wonders of the world await you. Follow Gilgamesh and Enkidu into battle. Be forever inspired by their bravery and strength."

A party was held to celebrate the victory of the Eternals over the Deviants, with all the Eternals but Phastos attending the festivities and enjoying the victory alongside humans, while Thena continued patrolling the city to make sure that Deviants were not returning. Sprite used her powers to cast illusions recounting the events of the battle, which would one day be translated into the Epic of Gilgamesh. Thanks to the Eternals, Babylon was able to continue thriving, becoming a cultural landmark of the civilization for many years, enabling humans to carry on their path of technological advancement.[1]
