"He discovered that there were universes stacked on top of his own..."
The subject of this article comes from an alternate universe connecting to the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as the "Norman Osborn-Mentored Spider-Man Universe".

"Most recently, the passage of the Sokovia Accords has created dissent in the Avengers' ranks. After a skirmish at an airport in Germany, the group has scattered, and Captain Rogers and Barnes remain on the run."
―News Reporter[src]

The Battle at Leipzig-Halle Airport[2] was an open battle between two factions of the Avengers, led by Captain America and Iron Man.

Background[]

"With over 100 countries in agreement, the ratification of the Sokovia Accords... means that any super-powered individual must register with their respective government or risk a fine or even imprisonment."
―News Reporter[src]

Following the aftermath of the devastating incident in Lagos that involved the Avengers,[3] the United Nations ratified the Sokovia Accords. Thaddeus Ross presented the document to the Avengers, noting that any superpowered individual must be registered and directly answer to the government. Although Tony Stark acted in support of the Accords, Steve Rogers opposed him, creating the rift between the Avengers, being split into two opposing factions. The situation got even more complicated and the conflict fully launched after the terrorist attack at the United Nations[4] and the involvement of Winter Soldier.[5]

Battle[]

Captain America and his faction, including Winter Soldier and Ant-Man arrived at Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany, where they were confronted by the Sokovia Accords-supporting Avengers. Being attacked by War Machine, Ant-Man resorted to becoming Giant-Man and catching him mid-flight, with Captain America and Winter Soldier acting on the ground. Eventually, the conflict ended with Captain America and Winter Soldier escaping and being labeled international fugitives.[4]

Aftermath[]

"We both know not everyone has fallen in line with the Accords. How is the search for Steve Rogers going?"
"That's classified, of course. A bit above your substantial pay grade."
Norman Osborn and Thaddeus Ross[src]

With Captain America and Winter Soldier on the run, Thaddeus Ross personally spearheaded a manhunt for them and all other individual violating the Sokovia Accords. The operation did not go smoothly, as when Norman Osborn approached Ross at the charity diner in support of Lagos victims and asked on the manhunt's status, Ross declined comment.[3] Iron Man and other Avengers who complied with the Accords, on the other hand, continued their activity under the government regulation.[6]

Although the public largely condemned Captain America's actions and viewed him as a criminal, some continued to support him, claiming that his actions were justified.[5]

  1. Amazing Fantasy begins before the start of school in the 2015 school year, placing the prologue in September 2015. The episode then features a time skip to “A FEW MONTHS LATER,” placing it in early 2016. In Hitting the Big Time, only “a few weeks” after the time jump, a news report shows the Battle of Leipzig-Halle Airport, which in Captain America: Civil War is shown to occur in June 2016 (see 2016 references). Therefore, it must be taken that the Battle of Leipzig-Halle Airport in the Norman Osborn-Mentored Spider-Man Universe occurred earlier than in the main universe of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, placing it as occurring at the same time as Hitting the Big Time and its preceding episodes.
