- "It is not Wanda Maximoff who threatens our reality. It's the two of you. I only acted, as you would."
- ―Baron Mordo to Doctor Strange[src]
Baron Karl Amadeus Mordo is the Sorcerer Supreme of the Masters of the Mystic Arts and a member of the Illuminati, succeeding the role of his late friend Supreme Strange. During Scarlet Witch's war, he met and imprisoned an alternate Doctor Strange and America Chavez at the Illuminati Headquarters, fearing the former was as dangerous as Supreme Strange was. While judging Strange in a trial with his teammates, Scarlet Witch attacked and massacred the Illuminati, leaving Mordo as the sole survivor, who failed to stop Strange from escaping his custody.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Friendship with Supreme Strange[]
- "You know nothing of this universe!"
"I know that killing Stephen Strange was your ticket to getting the Sanctum, to becoming Sorcerer Supreme, and to joining your little circus of clowns, the Illuminati!" - ―Baron Mordo and Doctor Strange[src]
Hailing from England in the United Kingdom, Baron Karl Amadeus Mordo trained in sorcery and eventually became part of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, led by the Sorcerer Supreme, Supreme Strange. He and Strange came to know one another as great friends, to the point Mordo would refer to him as a brother. During the Infinity War in 2018, Strange got corrupted by the Darkhold and accidentally caused an Incursion in another reality. As consequences, he was executed by his teammates, the Illuminati. Mordo then assumed his late friend's occupation as both Sorcerer Supreme and Illuminati member, and also helped spread a lie to the world that Strange died defeating Thanos, building an honorary statue of the hero in front of the New York Sanctum.[1]

Capturing Multiversal Travelers[]
- "I always suspected this day would come."
"You did?"
"Yes. It was you who always suspected this day would come. My brother." - ―Baron Mordo and Doctor Strange[src]

Mordo greets Doctor Strange from Earth-616
One day in November 2024, Mordo was exiting the New York Sanctum when he encountered Doctor Strange from Earth 616 and America Chavez, who had traveled across the Multiverse. He warmly greeted Strange, much to the latter's dismay, and affectionately referred to him as a brother. Mordo proclaimed that he had been awaiting the day that an alternate version of Supreme Strange would cross over into his universe, and invited both Chavez and Strange inside the sanctum, where they discussed the current problem at hand concerning Scarlet Witch. Mordo revealed that his reality also had the Darkhold, and explained the concept of Dreamwalking and how Maximoff could use such a spell to her advantage. Strange then inquired about the Book of Vishanti, which Mordo also confirmed he had access to.

Mordo has drugged Doctor Strange and America Chavez
Unknown to Strange and Chavez, Mordo had served them tea laced with sedative drugs from the Sands of Nisanti, which they began to feel the effects of. As the two started to lose consciousness, Mordo asserted that he was merely doing what Supreme Strange would have done in the same situation.

Mordo and the Illuminati judge Doctor Strange
He brought Chavez and Strange to Christine Palmer for analysis at the Illuminati Headquarters, and later presented Strange to the Illuminati, where they revealed the truth behind Supreme Strange's death. Strange's fate was to be put to a vote. However, before the team could proceed further, Maximoff attacked the headquarters, and Mordo as well as Professor X were the only members who stayed behind to deal with Strange. Professor X then revealed his optimism concerning Strange's capacity for good; however, Mordo insisted that he could not be trusted.[1]
Massacre of the Illuminati[]

- "They're not coming back. And you just cast your vote now to kill your friends. Not that that ever bothered you before."
- ―Doctor Strange[src]
Professor X proceeded to leave Doctor Strange and Mordo alone with one another so that he could join the Illuminati in the fight against Scarlet Witch. Strange pleaded with the Baron to set him free and take him to the Book of Vishanti so that they could fight Scarlet Witch together, but the latter refused, stating that he would not take action until his team members returned so that he could cast the final vote. When they both heard the aftermath of the Illuminati's massacre, Strange asserted that Mordo's team members did not survive Scarlet Witch's attack, and proceeded to antagonize him, accusing the latter of being jealous of Supreme Strange and even being responsible for framing him for his usage of the Darkhold. Mordo angrily shouted that Strange knew nothing of his universe before stating that he was ready to cast his vote.

Mordo fights against Doctor Strange
With this, Mordo drew his sword from his back and proceeded to attack Strange. The two engaged in a fight, where Strange wound up handcuffing Mordo to himself before dangling the both of them over a ledge in the council room, which eventually caused the handcuffs to snap in half, allowing Strange to escape after another brief struggle.
Due to him staying behind to guard Strange, Baron Mordo was the only member of the Illuminati to have survived Scarlet Witch's assault on their headquarters.[1]
Personality[]
- "I'm ready... to cast my vote now. DIE!"
- ―Baron Mordo to Doctor Strange[src]
Baron Mordo is shown to hold many similarities to his Earth-616 counterpart in terms of his personality, showing a rigid devotion to the rules of those he aligns himself with, such as the Illuminati. When Earth-616 Doctor Strange accused Mordo of secretly hating his universe's version of him and even being guilty of framing him for his mishaps with the Darkhold, the latter retorted that the former "knows nothing" of his universe, but did not explicitly deny his accusations. Moreover, Strange's accusations may hold some truths, as Mordo did not hesitate to then attack him while his back was turned, apparently with the intent to kill, and to that point had been more preoccupied with making sure the former was unable to escape as opposed to dealing with the more considerable threat that Scarlet Witch posed. Mordo also has a deceitful nature, as he presents himself in a friendly manner to Strange and America Chavez only to drug them and have them brought against their will to the Illuminati Headquarters, smugly remarking that Strange would have done the same.
