Axl Heimdallson, né Astrid Heimdallson, is the son of Heimdall and Grace. During Gorr the God Butcher's crusade, Axl and other children were abducted by Gorr's Shadow Monsters as bait to lure Thor to the Shadow Realm. With his powers, Axl maintained communication with Thor and fought alongside him and Mighty Thor in their battle against Gorr at the Gates of Eternity. After using Stormbreaker to activate the Bifrost Bridge to send himself and the other kids back to New Asgard, he was trained by Sif to become a warrior.

Life in New Asgard[]

Axl Heimdallson was born in Asgard as Astrid Heimdallson to Heimdall and Grace, and inherited his father's absolute senses. In 2017, Asgard was destroyed, and he, along with his parents and the other Asgardians evacuated via the Statesman. However, in 2018, they were ambushed by Thanos who killed his father and destroyed the ship. With his mother, he and the surviving Asgardians fled in escape pods with Valkyrie and traveled to Earth, where they settled in Tønsberg, Norway. Throughout the next years, he became a fan of Guns N' Roses and changed his given name to Axl, after the group's lead singer Axl Rose.[1]
Kidnapped by the God Butcher[]
A Bait for Thor[]
One night in 2025, Axl witnessed when New Asgard was attacked by Gorr the God Butcher and his Shadow Monsters. He watched as Thor, Valkyrie, Jane Foster, and the Einherjar fought back, before he and a group of other children were abducted by the Shadow Monsters under Gorr's command. He and the children were then placed in a cage and taken into space. During this time, Axl used the powers he inherited from his father and communicated with Thor, although he could only see the projection of Axl's floating head. Thor taught Axl how to establish a link between their senses, so Thor could be projected at the place Axl was and find out where Gorr kept them.
With Axl manifested a projection of Thor in their cage. Thor was able to see the surroundings and realize that the children were kept in the Shadow Realm. Thor tried to cheer the children up and told them that if they die, they will die like brave warriors and ascend to Valhalla, which only terrified them more. Axl was going to cut the connection, as the children became more upset, but Thor promised Axl that he will rescue them.
Axl later tried to cheer the children up by telling them the stories about Thor, specifically how he created Stormbreaker on Nidavellir and how he had beheaded Thanos. However, Axl and the others were startled by Gorr appearing behind them, laughing.
Gorr applauded to Axl's story, noting how the mentioning of beheading made him want to do the same, and beheaded Octy to entertain the children, but it only scared them more. Gorr then told the children to stay put, as he needed them as bait to get Thor where he wanted him to be. Later, Axl established another link with Thor, as the latter told the others about the incident at Omnipotence City and his confrontation with the Olympians. Axl questioned did Thor really needed to kill Zeus, to which he replied that Zeus disappointed him but now he possessed the Thunderbolt he could use to fight Gorr.[1]
Battle at the Gates of Eternity[]
Gorr the God Butcher soon brought the kids to the Gates of Eternity so he could open up the gate and kill all gods. Later, Thor arrived the save the day. Thor met with the kids, asking if they ever fought, which they have not. Thor then said that they have it in their genes and proceeded to use Thunderbolt to enchant the kids with the powers of Thor. Now with superpowers, the kids charged at the Shadow Monsters with Axl leading the way. Thor eventually got Stormbreaker and threw it to Axl, who brought all of the kids back home.[1]
Returning to New Asgard[]
Returning to New Asgard, Axl reunited with his mother who was incredibly relieved to see her son returning home unharmed. Valkyrie decided that the children needed to be taught how to fight, she organized training classes for them, as Axl was personally taught by Sif how to wield a sword.[1]

- Stormbreaker: After the Battle at the Gates of Eternity, Axl was given the Stormbreaker by Thor during his battle with Gorr the God Butcher. Axl used the Stormbreaker to summon the Bifrost Bridge and bring himself and other children back to New Asgard.
