Behind the Scenes[]
Continuity[]
Independently, each book within the Avengers Initiative Acceptee Tony Stark Universe would be considered non-canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the case of Phase One: Iron Man, this is because of differences such as Tony Stark trying to prevent Obadiah Stane from falling into the Arc Reactor, Anton Vanko dying three days prior to Stark announcing his identity as Iron Man to the world, and Stark having been accepted into the Avengers Initiative right away. For Phase One: Captain America: The First Avenger, differences include the World Exposition of Tomorrow occurring in 1942 rather than 1943, the movie theaters showing a filmed version of Captain America's USO Show rather than a movie depicting a fictionalized Captain America, and Captain America and Red Skull fighting during the Liberation of Allied Prisoners of War.
For Phase One: The Incredible Hulk, differences include Abomination being able to speak in full sentences while in his monstrous form. Phase One: Thor establishes that Asgard had saved Earth many times prior to the appearance of Thor on Earth, that Odin is not secretive about his past as a conqueror, Mjølnir is already enchanted to be only for the worthy by the start of the book's events, and that Loki does not attempt to lift Mjølnir while he is at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Crater Investigation Site. Significant differences in Phase One: Marvel's The Avengers include the gun which Rogers takes as proof of Phase Two's existence being a Hydra weapon rather than a recreation of one and the Avengers at the end of the novel running from the World Security Council.
Due to these differences, each book is considered non-canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These books were all written by Alexander Irvine and sold in various sets together. Phase One: Captain America: The First Avenger, Phase One: The Incredible Hulk, and Phase One: Thor were sold together in Phase One Box Set. Those three books, along with Phase One: Iron Man and Phase One: Marvel's The Avengers, were sold in Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One Book Boxed Set. All of these books, along with novelizations of Phase 2 and Phase 3 films, were sold in Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years Anniversary Collection. However, Phase Two: Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier has Rogers working with S.H.I.E.L.D., which contradicts the idea of him being on the run from the World Security Council after Phase One: Marvel's The Avengers, and Phase Two: Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron establishes that Stark and War Machine fought robots which were built by Anton Vanko together, whereas Phase One: Iron Man follows the story of Iron Man 2 in that the Hammer Drones were built by Ivan Vanko. Since the phases of novels are not compatible with each other, each phase boxed set can be taken to be independent from each other. The novels in Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One Book Boxed Set are all compatible with each other, so it can be taken that they are all set in the same universe as each other.
