Avengers: Secret Wars is an upcoming superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. The film is a sequel to The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Avengers: Doomsday. It is the fortieth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the fourth and final installment of Phase Six and The Multiverse Saga. The film is set to be released on December 17, 2027.[6]

On July 22, 2022, it was revealed that Marvel Studios had filed five trademarks including one for Avengers: Secret Wars.[17] The next day, at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Kevin Feige officially announced that the film was in development. He also announced that the film would be released on November 7, 2025.[18]
On October 3, 2022, Deadline reported that Michael Waldron would be writing the film's script.[3]
On October 11, 2022, it was announced that the film had been pushed back from its initial release date to May 1, 2026.[19]
On June 13, 2023, it was announced that the film had been pushed back from its May 1, 2026 release date to May 7, 2027.[20]
On November 2, 2023, it was revealed that Jonathan Schwartz would serve as an executive producer on the film.[4]
On July 17, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, better known as the Russo Brothers, were in early talks to direct both the fifth and sixth Avengers films.[21]
On July 27, 2024, at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, it was announced that the film, along with its new predecessor Avengers: Doomsday, itself replacing the cancelled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, would be directed by the Russo Brothers and would star Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom.[1] It was also announced that the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts would appear in the film.[9][10] That same day, it was revealed that the Russos would be co-producing the film through their company AGBO and that Stephen McFeely would be writing the film's script, replacing Michael Waldron.[2]
On July 29, 2024, it was reported that Alan Silvestri would be composing the score for the film.[5]
On January 22, 2025, in an interview with Variety, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that he would be reprising his role as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange in the film.[8]
On April 4, 2025, it was revealed that Hayley Atwell had joined the cast of the film in an undisclosed role.[11]
On May 22, 2025, it was reported that the movie had been pushed back from its May 7, 2027 release date to December 17, 2027.[6]
On November 17, 2025, Deadline revealed that Sadie Sink would be reprising her role from Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the film.[15]
On December 5, 2025, in an interview with ScreenRant, Letitia Wright revealed that she would be reprising her role as Shuri/Black Panther in the film.[12]
On December 12, 2025, in an interview with The Telegraph, Paul Bettany revealed that he would be reprising his role as White Vision in the film.[13]
On January 4, 2026, in an interview with People, Simu Liu revealed that he would be reprising his role as Shang-Chi in the film.[14]
