The subject of this article is part of an MCU franchise story that has been officially deemed to be non-canonical to the primary continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its events instead occur in another reality within the Multiverse.

Avengers: Age of Ultron: The Junior Novel is the junior novelization of the film of the same name.

Synopsis[]

Following the record-shattering successes of Marvel's The Avengers in 2012, The Avengers must reassemble on the big screen to combat the robotic menace of Ultron! Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for US release on May 1, 2015. Acclaimed writer/director Joss Whedon and producer Kevin Feige return, along with the all-star cast of Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow) and Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye). They are joined by Emmy Award- winner James Spader as Ultron.[1]

The junior novel contains substantial contradictions with the events of the film and the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. The intel on the location of the Scepter is provided by Thor, whereas the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode The Dirty Half Dozen states that this intel was provided by Phil Coulson following the Attack on the Arctic HYDRA Research Facility. The depiction of the Attack on the HYDRA Research Base also has several notable contradictions with the film. HYDRA Tanks are deployed at the beginning of the battle rather than only after Iron Man discovers the presence of the energy shield around the HYDRA Research Base, while List is only knocked unconscious by Iron Man's repulsor blast rather than being killed. Wanda Maximoff also briefly uses her Chaos Magic to place Captain America in a vision of images of his past during the attack rather than simply throwing him down the stairs and Baron Strucker attempts to kill both himself and Captain America with a grenade instead of being knocked out by Captain America after Wanda's attack. Bruce Banner enters his Hulk form in the middle of the battle rather than already being in his Hulk form at the start and transitions back to himself on his own rather than needing Black Widow to calm him down. Iron Man is also placed in Wanda's illusion before he can tell Thor that he found the Scepter, with the resulting illusion, as well as all of Wanda's illusions throughout the rest of the novel, being unseen. Sam Wilson does not attend the party at Avengers Tower. J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron do not have a conversation before Ultron attacks J.A.R.V.I.S. Ulysses Klaue's brand is stated to have come from South Africa rather than from Wakanda, with Vibranium in turn being implied to originate from South Africa rather than from Wakanda. Ultron also does not cut off Klaue's arm after Klaue mentions Tony Stark's name. Therefore, the junior novel has been deemed non-canon as per our Canon Policy.
