The Avengers were a group of individuals with unique talents or extraordinary abilities who protected Earth,[3] led by Captain Carter,[1] who was dubbed the first Avenger,[3] with members including Iron Man and the Scarlet Witch. Once Stark created the Ultron Sentries, designing them to protect the world from all kinds of threats, the Avengers disbanded and retired.[2] Captain Carter then joined the Illuminati while Maximoff relocated to Westview, New Jersey, where she had two children.[3]

- According to Marvel Studios producer Richie Palmer in an interview with Empire Magazine, the Avengers of Earth-838 retired around the time Avengers: Age of Ultron would have taken place because "This is a world where Ultron seemed to work" and Tony Stark said "Hey, whoever wants to retire and go home, can." and the Illuminati was secretly formed.[2]
