"Come on. I never totally fit in with the gang, anyway."
The subject of this article is part of an MCU franchise story that has been officially deemed to be non-canonical to the primary continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its events instead occur in another reality within the Multiverse. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as the "Chitauri Helicarrier Attack Universe".

"The Tesseract is mine! Now I will rule this world!"
―Loki[src]

The Attack on the Helicarrier was Loki's successful mission in obtaining the Tesseract.

Background[]

"This containment device you've been working on is supposed to ensure that this Tesseract doesn't suddenly pull the entire planet into another dimension?"
Captain America to Bruce Banner[src]

Having found the Tesseract in the ocean, S.H.I.E.L.D. brought it on board the Helicarrier to put a permanent containment device around it. This project was being overseen by Bruce Banner and Steve Rogers. Meanwhile, Loki had his men attack the United Nations in order to have him get on the Helicarrier unseen.[1]

Attack[]

"Hmm... I'm getting a lot of strange feedback and interference. Wait... our signals are being jammed!"
Bruce Banner to Captain America[src]

Bruce Banner and Captain America were discussing the Tesseract when suddenly the comms went down. Rogers investigated to find Loki on board the Helicarrier. The super soldier took down many of Loki's mercenaries until he finally got to Loki himself. However, Loki revealed himself to be an illusion. Meanwhile, the real Loki obtained the Tesseract and left. Having failed, Rogers turned the communications back on.[1]

Aftermath[]

"Stark, it's Fury! Listen up: My team can briefly re-open the portal for a brief time. If you can get to Loki and then hurl him through the portal before it closes, that Asgardian god won't be threatening Earth for a very long time."
Nick Fury to Iron Man[src]

With the Tesseract, Loki opened up a Wormhole to Earth in order for the Chitauri to come. Once Loki's step was complete, S.H.I.E.L.D. regained control of the Tesseract and figured out how the shut down the Wormhole, but not before they threw Loki into the portal, ending his invasion.[1]
