The Attack on the Golden Daggers Club was a successful attempt by the Ten Rings to capture Shang-Chi and Xu Xialing.
Background[]
Desperately wishing to find a way to bring back his wife, Xu Wenwu suddenly heard the voice that sounded like Ying Li, telling him that the elders of Ta Lo trapped her spirit behind the Dark Gate located near the village. The voice begged Wenwu to come and liberate her, so Wenwu returned to searching for the village, hoping that his wife is still out there, waiting for him. Wenwu discovered that although the entrance into Ta Lo was hidden in the bamboo maze, there is a secret passage that could be accessed once a year at a specific time.
During his research, Wenwu found out that in order to find the passage, he needed two Eyes of the Dragon, two gems from a dragon statue from Ta Lo, that Ying Li gave to Shang-Chi and Xu Xialing to wear as pendants. As Shang-Chi ran away after the war with the Iron Gang and Xialing later left as well, Wenwu ordered the Ten Rings to find them and bring him their pendants. Razor Fist tracked down Shang-Chi in San Francisco and attacked him, stealing his pendant.

Led by a postcard that was seemingly sent by Xialing, Shang-Chi and Katy Chen then traveled to Macau to find her and warn her about Wenwu coming after her. However, they did not know that a postcard was actually a trap set by the Ten Rings. Shang-Chi managed to find Xialing at the Golden Daggers Club, however, he had to engage in a duel with her, and Xialing defeated her brother. Although Shang-Chi warned her about Wenwu, Xialing made it clear that she did not need his help and told him that a postcard was not sent by her.[1]

Razor Fist, as well as the group of the Ten Rings warriors, broke into the Golden Daggers Club, making chaos at the building. Xu Xialing and Jon Jon managed to escape, using the secret shortcut to the elevator, leaving Shang-Chi and Katy Chen alone against the Ten Rings. Shang-Chi and Chen then attempted to make their way out of the building through the scaffolding, however, the Ten Rings caught up on them soon.
Shang-Chi told Chen to go forward while he stayed to fight the Ten Rings to buy her some time. While he was fighting, Chen was attacked by one of the warriors and although she managed to catch him off-guard and distract him by singing Hotel California, he cut the balk she was holding onto. Shang-Chi rushed to catch Chen before she could fall off the building, however, one of the Ten Rings warriors electrocuted him, making Shang-Chi drop her. Thankfully, Xialing actually returned and caught Chen from the lower level before she fell to her death and joined her brother in a fight.
Shang-Chi fights Death Dealer
Together, Shang-Chi and Xialing successfully fought off all Ten Rings warriors, however, Death Dealer managed to steal Xialing's pendant and him. Shang-Chi chased the Death Dealer before he could escape in the helicopter waiting for him outside the building. Shang-Chi engaged in a fight with him, and as his skills surpassed his former mentor, Shang-Chi managed to grab one of his daggers and pin the Death Dealer.
However, before Shang-Chi could kill him, he was stopped by Xu Wenwu who arrived at the scene and got his men to capture Chen and Xialing as Wenwu broke up the fight. Shang-Chi had no choice but to let Death Dealer go, as he presented both Eyes of the Dragon to Wenwu. Reuniting with his family, Wenwu ordered his men to bring all three of them to the Ten Rings Headquarters.[1]

At the Ten Rings Headquarters, Wenwu reveals to Shang-Chi and Xialing that his late wife, Ying Li , has been calling out for him to come and save her from behind the Dark Gate of Ta Lo. He reasons that because she had left her village to be with him the people of Ta Lo imprisoned her, although his children do not believe him. Wenwu then uses the Eyes of the Dragon to generate a magical map made of water that outlines the secret passage through the bamboo maze, as well as the exact time where it can be accessed. Wenwu then reveals his intention to burn the village of Ta Lo down after rescuing his wife, a plan which alienates his children and Chen into raising their objections. For this, they are thrown into a dungeon. [1]
