The Attack on A.I.M. Headquarters was Tony Stark's final mission to defeat A.I.M..
Background[]
A.I.M. partnered with Obadiah Stane in an attempt to recreate the Mark I, but struggled to find a power source. They attempted to steal nuclear power from a Russian nuclear facility, but were stopped by Tony Stark. A.I.M. then hijacked a ship owned by the United States Air Force, but were stopped from taking the power source again by Stark.
The A.I.M. President called Stane and told him that they were unable to get a sufficient power source, angering Stane. Stane orchestrated an A.I.M. Attack on Iron Man in an effort to get Stark's newest armor and called Stark to take responsibility for the attack, but Stark stopped the attack. Stark returned to his workshop and found Stane inside, and the two argued about Stane's involvement. Stane attacked Stark and stole his Arc Reactor. He then arranged for Pepper Potts to be kidnapped by A.I.M. and fled in the Stark Industries Private Jet. Stane continued pushing progress of the armor forward using the stolen Arc Reactor while James Rhodes attacked Stark and Stark rescued Potts.
Stark became even more determined to take A.I.M. down and attacked an island facility. Meanwhile, A.I.M. successfully launched a tethered satellite that would provide the power source they needed, so Stark became determined to destroy it.[1]
Attack[]
- "AIM's done."
"You did it!" - ―Tony Stark and Pepper Potts[src]
Tony Stark arrived at A.I.M.'s headquarters and started attacking its defenses. Stark broke into the headquarters and fought the soldiers present. He reached a lower level, where a security field was activated. Stark disabled the field and J.A.R.V.I.S. found an erratically moving signal he was unable to pinpoint. Stark continued to fight through the base until he found the source of the signal: a room where A.I.M. was studying the Mark I Iron Man armor. Stark fought the soldiers inside, and Rhodes asked him to find a computer terminal so he could determine what Obadiah Stane was hiding.
Stark fought through more of the base and recovered blueprints and continued further into the base, fighting more soldiers. He came across the area where the main computer was located, so he destroyed the mainframe. Stark then came across a series of armors which Rhodes noted were similar to his own, so he activated and destroyed them. Rhodes told Stark that all the battle suits were controlled from a central location, so Stark found and destroyed it. With A.I.M. finished, Stark returned home.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "Now it's your turn, Stane."
- ―Tony Stark[src]
Tony Stark returned to his workshop and fixed his armor while trying to convince Obadiah Stane to stop his mission. However, Stane refused and revealed that he had taken Pepper Potts. Stane activated his Iron Monger Armor and began to attack a Los Angeles highway. Stark confronted Stane, who led him to Stark Industries Headquarters, where he had Potts. Stark tricked Stane into standing over the Arc Reactor while Potts activated an electromagnetic pulse from it, allowing Stark to defeat Stane.[1]
