"I need an atomic bomb."
Whitney Frost[src]

The Atomic Bomb is a weapon of great power that was used only two times in the history of the world.

History

World War II

"Your father, he helped give us the atomic bomb. Now what kind of world would it be today if he was as selfish as you?"
Obadiah Stane to Tony Stark[src]

Using the power of the Tesseract, Arnim Zola designed a series of flying atomic bombs. HYDRA attempted to use those bombs against the United States in 1945, via their gigantic plane, the Valkyrie. However, due to the efforts of Captain America, the plane was crashed into the icy waters of the North Atlantic and the bombs were destroyed.[1]

Later that same year, the United States Air Force used the atomic bombs, codenamed Fat Man and Little Boy[2] and created by the Manhattan Project, which included Howard Stark,[3] against the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which ended World War II.[2]

Roxxon Corporation

"Those were manufactured by Roxxon."
Jason Wilkes[src]

Roxxon Corporation became known for the creation of Atomic Bombs for use for the United States Armed Forces.[4]

Atomic Bomb test gone awry

In 1947, Isodyne Energy was testing the effectiveness of an atomic bomb,[2] created by the Roxxon Corporation,[4] when a rift was created that sucked the military vehicles and personnel into it. When the rift closed, a black substance which was called Zero Matter was the only thing left.[2] After that test, the two additional bombs were placed in storage at the Roxxon Warehouse under heavy security.[4]

Obtaining a Bomb

Whitney Frost decided that she needed an Atomic Bomb to replicate the circumstances which created the rift that released the Zero Matter when she absorbed the Zero Matter within the corpse of Jane Scott and wanted to increase her exposure to the substance. Peggy Carter and Edwin Jarvis overheard the declaration and Jason Wilkes told them that Frost must not be allowed to succeed. A race occurred between Frost, Calvin Chadwick, and her hired Maggia men against Carter, Jarvis, and selected members of the Strategic Scientific Reserve to get to the Atomic Bombs stored in the Roxxon Warehouse. Carter's team found the Bombs first and were successfully able to disarm their uranium cores before Frost could find them.[4]
