Athena is a fictional character based on Thena created by Sprite during their time living in Ancient Greece. As a result of Sprite introducing her story to the people of Athens, Athena was adopted into Greek legend and mythology as the Goddess of War and the daughter of Zeus.

Ancient Greek Mythology[]
The Eternals eventually relocated to Athens, Greece to continue fighting the Deviants. During this period, Sprite shared the story of Thena as the Goddess of War to the people of Athens. As a result of Sprite sharing her story to the Ancient Greeks, Thena, mistakenly referred to as Athena, became one of their historical legends and was incorporated into Ancient Greek mythology[2] as the daughter of Zeus.[3]
