Atahraks is a former Mohawk villager who got sent into the Sky World, assuming the role of a beacon of guidance and wisdom for its inhabitants. After welcoming and befriending Kahhori, he and his fellow empowered inhabitants were motivated by her to exit their peaceful Sky World to combat the Conquistadores that were waging violence on their native people. While aiding Kahhori in her mission, Atahraks was taken prisoner by Doctor Strange in the Sanctum Infinitum and nearly sacrificed to the Forge, though his friend saved him and transported him home.
Biography[]
Mohawk[]
Sent to Sky World[]
Atahraks was a young Mohawk living in Akwesasne. One day, his cousin went to an infamous lake and never returned. Latrer on, Atahraks also went to the lake and ended up getting sucked in only to find himself transported to Sky World where he gained superhuman abilities and also reunited with his cousin.[2]
Life in Sky World[]
New Arrival[]
Years later, Atahraks noticed something shoot out of the portal, which had not happened in years. He went to investigate and found a young Mohawk woman had been sent through. He tried to greet her and calm her down, only for the woman to faint in fear. Atahraks brought her to the village to rest.
The next morning, Atahraks saw that the woman was awake and outside, he greeted her once more. Noticing that she was confused, Atahraks explained that the blue light she fell through seeped into everything in Sky World and gives them powers. Atahraks then realized he had not introduced himself and chuckled before doing so. The woman then greeted him as Kahhori. He then explained that where they were was amazing and how that happened was that she fell through a portal in the lake.
Kahhori realized he meant the Forbidden Lake, which made Atahraks realize it was deemed forbidden now, which he agreed was a smart choice. Kahhori thanked him for his kindness, but said she had to go home. She then gasped as she remembered her village was being attacked by Conquistadores. She then ran to the portal despite Atahraks calls for her to calm down. When he reached her, he told Kahhori that they are in paradise and she was meant to be there.[2]
Observing Kahhori[]
Kahhori still felt that she needed to get back to her village despite the portal being out of reach. She climbed up onto a branch as Atahraks watched. He stated that it seemed as though the land was trying to help her. Atahraks soon told her that he understood she did not want to be there, but the Forbidden Lake transported them for a reason, so she needed to slow down and feel the energy around her.
Kahhori followed his guide and used her new powers to jump to the next branch. An impressed Atahraks proclaimed she was a quick learner and asked which clay she was made of. Kahhori said she was wolf to which Atahraks stated he was turtle. Atahraks then got to the top of the tree where Kahhori stated that there was so much they could do with the powers, so there could not be a limit like Atahraks claimed. Atahraks tried to explain that many have tried to reach the portal and failed. Kahhori stated that if that is so, then they did not try hard enough.
Atahraks watched as Kahhori tried to use a stick as a step, but it fell immediately. Atahraks responded to her previous claim that instead, they found a home. He then watched again as Kahhori made it three steps before falling. Atahraks looked down, saying the record was fourteen steps. Kahhori tried many more times, only to fall each time. Having tried for a while, Kahhori looked up stating that it was not a paradise, but a prison. Atahraks tried to make her feel better, but was interrupted by the sound of the hunt. Atahraks proclaimed that the hunt was starting and told Kahhori she would love it. He then jumped down to the ground with ease and excitement.[2]
The Hunt[]
Now in the tall grass, Atahraks explained to Kahhori that the Sky World Fruit took years to sprout from the Gakowaneh. Kahhori was confused on how they hunt fruit, to which Atahraks told her that was the fun part. The Gakowaneh then awoke and the hunt commenced. Atahraks and many others chased the Gakowaneh as Kahhori caught up. Atahraks explained to Kahhori that the trick was to jump over them, but never in front. He then demonstrated by jumping over a Gakowaneh and picking a fruit with ease.
As he ran some more, he was caught off guard when Kahhori came whizzing past him. He exclaimed how fast she was as she made it to the front of the pack. As the sun set, Atahraks asked how many fruit everyone got, impressed at someone getting twelve. He then asked how many Kahhori got, only to realize she was not there. With awe, he turned around to see Kahhori with dozens of fruit. He watched as an elder approached Kahhori, telling her how important her name was because of this feat.[2]
An Ultimatum[]
By nightfall, the Sky Worlders danced and sang. Atahraks teased Kahhori, asking if Sky World was still a prison. Suddenly, Kahhori yelled for everyone to get down and pushed Atahraks to the ground. Atahraks turned around to see Kahhori blocking gunfire from Conquistadores, who had made their way through the portal.
An angry Kahhori pulled the men in closer, demanding to know what they were doing. Atahraks attempted to get her to calm down, but Kahhori explained that they were the men after her village. Nevertheless, Atahraks took the high route and tried again to calm her down. This caused Kahhori to turn her anger onto the Sky Worlders. She proclaimed that they got too comfortable in their new world and forgot their history. As she yelled, wind blew around her and the land grabbed onto the Conquistadores. Atahraks realized this and pointed it out.
Kahhori then looked up at the portal and used her powers and pull it down to the ground. She explained that she wanted to help her people, including the Sky Worlders, but they would be stuck unless they learned to move. Standing in front of the portal, Kahhori announced she was going to fight, and asked who was with her. Atahraks spoke up and told Kahhori that they did not need war and they were protected in Sky World. However, Kahhori did not agree and told the Sky Worlders that if they were worthy of the planet, they would help her. She then went through the portal.[2]
Proving Worthiness[]
With Kahhori gone, Atahraks and the Sky Worlders realized she was right, so they entered the portal and made their way to the shore. There, they saw the Mohawk being held captive by the Conquistadores and Rodrigo Gonzolo standing over Kahhori with a sword to her throat. The Sky Worlders charged out of the forest and towards the Conquistadores, knocking Gonzolo into the ground in the process. Atahraks approached Kahhori and brought her close, saying she was true.
Atahraks then took to battle alongside Kahhori and fought the Conquistadores. He then saw Kahhori with her brother, Wáhta, and heard Kahhori talking about how the Sky Worlders were their people. As Wáhta realized the "thunder beings" were real, Atahraks kneeled down to him, saying Kahhori was the bravest of them all. In the end, the Mohawk and Sky Worlders stood united as they watched the last ships explode.[2]
Skirmish at the Spanish Royal Court[]
- "Kahhori and her people used the miracles of the Sky World to bring peace to their neighbors."
- ―The Watcher[src]
Several months later, Kahhori and the Sky Worlders had encountered many more groups of Conquistadores, so Kahhori decided to approach the Queen of Spain, Isabella de Trastámara I. Atahraks followed Kahhori's lead as they walked through a portal into the Alcazar of Segovia and confronted de Trastámara. Kahhori demanded peace and through ulterior means, was able to get the Queen to accept. Therefore, Atahraks held out a symbol of unity before being interrupted by Strange Supreme, who wanted to see Kahhori.[2]
Taken by Strange Supreme[]
Upon taking Kahhori, Strange Supreme also went back and captured Atahraks, deeming him a "universe killer". He held Atahraks in a crystal ball, awaiting the time where he would feed Atahraks and the many other prisoners to the Forge to recreate his own universe. Eventually, Atahraks was broken free and witnessed a riot among the prisoners. Suddenly, Atahraks was sent through a portal towards the Forge. There, he spotted Kahhori fighting Strange Supreme.
Kahhori then used her powers to stop everyone from falling, and sending them upwards into their portals back home. However, this plan did not work as Kahhori was pre-occupied with Strange, so they began falling again. Thinking on her feet, Captain Carter used the Time Stone to stop the prisoners again and send them back up. Seeing this, Strange unleashed his Time Stone, freezing everyone mid-air. As the battle continued, the victims fell once again, but right before reaching the Forge, Kahhori caught everyone with the portal. Atahraks gave Kahhori a look of satisfaction as he entered back to his universe.[3]
Helping Kahhori[]
In order for Kahhori to meet with Eitri, Atahraks and a team helped use their powers to hold a longhouse in the sky for Eitri to access.[4]
