The Astral Ring is a relic capable of opening portals in possession of the Masters of the Mystic Arts that was sought after by Dormammu.

Battle for the Astral Ring[]
Doctor Strange learned that Dormammu sought the Astral Ring in order to open a portal to Earth. Strange successfully acquired the ring and brought it to the Ancient Sanctum. Knowing that Dormammu would soon come to try to steal the ring, Strange attempted to hide the ring using the Cloth of Concealment, but Dormammu managed to steal the ring from within the silk. Strange was able to recover the ring by traveling back in time and decided to to use Balam's Box of Transformation to disguise the ring's molecular structure to hide it from Dormammu. While he was successful at disguising the ring, Strange reasoned that it wouldn't take Dormammu long to figure out where the ring was.[1]
Strange decided to further protect the ring by creating a Spectral Shield using the Spectral Staff. However, unaware of the location of the staff, he asked the Soul Seeker for help locating it. The Soul Seeker eventually identified a hero who supposedly had the staff. However, the hero instead gave Strange the Urn of Undor, which he managed to combine with Oshtur's Stone and transform into the Spectral Staff. At that moment, Dormammu attempted to take the ring once again, but Strange successfully cast the shielding spell and protected the ring from Dormammu's grasp once again.[1]

The Astral Ring was capable of opening and closing portals between different planets and dimensions. Doctor Strange described the ring as having a "mind of its own" and that it would find its way back to the Dark Dimension if not carefully protected.[1]
